Booklet printing is one-sided - why?

Post by Sarah-ep »

I'm so irritated at the waste of paper.

I'm printing a 75 page doc as an A5 booklet. These are the settings I used.

The booklet has come out printed on only one side of the paper. That is a LOT of extra paper!

I was able to do this in Adobe with no problem and it was much simpler.

Hello, Sarah-ep

just to be sure, do you have Duplexing enabled at the moment?

Thanks for your reply - yes Duplex is set to Auto (none).

Hello, Sarah-ep

Thank you for checking, "auto (none)" would indicate that duplexing is disabled in your printer driver settings, so printing single sided is expected in this format. Please select one of the duplexing options present below "none" so that the printer can properly utilize multi-sided printing.

This is strange. The double-sided option is ticked in the Booklet printing menu under "Print sides". Auto, by definition, implies that later choices would have an automatic effect on this setting.

Why would I need to deselect Auto? It is not logical.

Also, would I choose long edge or short edge for booklet printing? That is not clear either.

That complication is something that would easily be removed by having additional or more precise text in the "Page Placement and Scaling" section of the print menu. Nobody wants to have to think this hard about printing!

Hello, Sarah-ep

Auto is part of the printer settings, along with the in brackets item defining what function auto will perform.
Auto inherently means that it will operate based on the setting you printers own drivers have informed our software that is available/selected internally. Perhaps the printer is configured to print single sided by default in its own printer properties, and you simply need to change this once for it to stick.

Alternatively, it could indicate that your printer drivers are not properly installed, and so the printer is failing to report its capabilities to us. It may be worth uninstalling the printer device drivers, restarting the PC (and printer), then reinstalling the latest device specific drivers from the manufacturers website, and restarting both the PC and printer again. That may resolve the issue directly, The "auto" option should reflect that an automatic duplexing function is enabled, instead of claiming none, if the printer is configured to duplex by default.

The manual choice of short or long side duplexing controls which direction you need to manually flip the pages when performing. Long edge meaning the longer edge of the page, while short edge means the shorter edge of the page.
