Hello, margian

This may possibly be something specific to the page content in the document you are viewing, as I have just tested a few of my more reliable test files and they open at the same speed as usual on my end.
Could I possibly ask for a copy of the file in question, so we can test with that and see if there is any other possible impact here?

Beyond that, I have also forwarded this report to our Dev team, so they can test with any samples they have in the meantime, hopefully someone can reproduce this locally and find a solution for the next release.

Kind regards,

Hello, margian

Thank you for the clarification. I cannot reproduce the issue on this end, so I will need to ask that you record a process monitory log of the steps as you take them. Ideally with a Video recording at the same time, so we can line up the timestamps visually with the actions and appearance of the software.
This article details how to capture a process monitor log:
https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgeba ... or-Procmon

Once you have done so, you can upload both the video and log file, here: https://files.pdf-xchange.com/s/eqd9KN53eP5RCSJ
Please do let me know as soon as the upload is completed.

Hello all,

I would like to add my findings to this discussion, as I am experiencing the same issue described by @margian in this topic. After updating to PDF‑XChange Editor v11.0.0, the startup time has become noticeably slower compared to build 410.

To verify this objectively, I measured the startup time using AppTimer, which records the moment an application becomes responsive. I chose this tool because it reflects actual user‑perceived startup time, unlike low‑level tools such as Process Monitor, where the definition of “startup completion” can vary depending on which internal event is selected as the endpoint.

  • PassMark AppTimer (Application Startup Timer)
    https://www.passmark.com/products/apptimer/index.php
  • figure.png
I have also captured the entire measurement process as a GIF animation and included it below along with the measurement results.

Startup Time Measurements (5 runs each)
The results of five measurements for each version, taken on the PC I primarily use (GMKtec Nucbox M7 Pro with AMD Ryzen9 6950H), are shown below.
  • ─────────────────────────────────
    C:\Program Files\PDF-XChange\PDF Editor\PXCEditor.exe - 5 executions
    1.4696
    1.3042
    1.3814
    1.3825
    1.3749
    C:\Users\user\Downloads\build 410\PDFXEdit.exe - 5 executions
    0.3304
    0.3442
    0.3297
    0.3297
    0.3296
    ─────────────────────────────────
    Animation.gif
The results show a consistent and significant difference:
  • v11.0.0: approx. 1.3–1.5 seconds
  • build 410: approx. 0.33 seconds
This means that v11.0.0 is roughly 4 times slower to start, which is clearly noticeable in daily use. That said, the difference is only really apparent during startup, and it doesn't cause me significant inconvenience. If the longer startup time brings other, more valuable benefits, I personally don't mind it at all.

I performed the same measurements on another PC (Lenovo IdeaPad C340-15IWL with Intel Core i5-8265U), and although the startup time differs slightly due to the different specifications, the overall trend is similar.
  • ─────────────────────────────────
    C:\Program Files\PDF-XChange\PDF Editor\PXCEditor.exe - 5 executions
    1.5342
    1.5146
    1.5703
    1.4031
    1.4746
    C:\Users\user\Downloads\build 410\PDFXEdit.exe - 5 executions
    0.4054
    0.4042
    0.4221
    0.4043
    0.4218
    ─────────────────────────────────
    Animation2.gif
Note that since I was unable to obtain a portable version of Version 11.0.0 for testing, I was forced to compare the installed version of Version 11.0.0 with the portable version of build 410. However, based on my comparison of the installed version of build 410 with the portable version of build 410, I believe that the difference in installation type does not have a significant impact on startup time.

Why AppTimer Was Used Instead of Process Monitor
While Process Monitor is excellent for developer‑level analysis, it is not suitable for measuring user‑experienced startup time, because:
  • The “end of startup” is ambiguous (DLL load, registry read, UI draw, etc.)
  • Different interpretations lead to inconsistent results
  • ProcMon captures internal OS events, not the moment the application becomes usable
In contrast, AppTimer measures the moment the main window becomes responsive, which aligns with what users actually perceive.

Conclusion
Based on these measurements, I agree with the earlier report:
PDF‑XChange Editor v11.0.0 starts significantly slower than build 410, and the slowdown is easy to notice.

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you for your hard work on this great software.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hi Rakunavi,

Thanks for the feedback - we are aware that there are some issues with V11, and we are working on resolving them as soon as possible. If the issues are too much for your workflow, we recommend moving back to V10 for the time being.

Can this regression also be due to new/updated plugins enabled by default in v11?
To me, disabling several that were enabled, didn't make much of a difference.

Hi margian.
In the given case, the problem is in the Editor core component, so disabling the plugins will not help much.

Hello, quickcad

This file seemed to open in under a second on my end, could you elaborate on how much of a difference you are seeing in the two scenarios, and perhaps walk us through the process and when you see a delay?

11.0.1 is now aligned with 10.8.5.410 with respect to launch speed. Thanks.
