[version 11.0.0] Search pane bug with "c"

Post by Joxon »

I noticed a small bug in the search pane. Open a PDF file, press Ctrl+Shift+F, and enter a random character or word. Press Search... Now type the letter "c". You will see a "broom" icon and the word "clear". If you try to type anything else, such as the word "control", a dialog appears asking, "Do you want to clear the search history?" The only way out is to clear the search history. After that, you can perform a new search with a "c", for example for "control".

Hello Joxon,

May I ask for a screenshot of what you see on your end as I cannot reproduce this?

Also, please tell me where are you entering the letter C? In the Search field?

Regards.

Hello Dimitar,

Sorry for jumping into the discussion, but Mr. Joxon's explanation made perfect sense to me, so I recorded a video for your reference.

  • Animation.gif
As usual, I started the video after resetting all settings to default. For this specific issue, clearing the search history before testing is absolutely crucial.

If there is no history at all, the issue does not occur. That is why Mr.Joxon's initial instruction starts with creating some history.

After that, when you type "c", the "clear" command (which initializes the history) gets auto-completed if the app language is set to English. Therefore, if the UI is set to a non-English language, the command equivalent to "clear" might have a different name. In that case, you would need to type the initial letter of that localized command name instead.

In my opinion, this issue stems from the fact that the history clear command is listed on the exact same level as the history items in the dropdown list. Because the clear command is treated identically to regular history entries, typing "c" unintentionally triggers the auto-completion of the command name. In that regard, I believe this is somewhat related to the issue I pointed out previously in the following topic:

Hoping that the above information will be of some help to you.
Thank you for your hard work on this great software.

Best regards,
rakunavi

Hello Sean and Dimitar,

Just to clarify, this topic is not fully resolved yet.
While @Joxon confirmed that my explanation correctly represented the issue, the underlying bug/limitation in the software still remains.

If the above explanation has clarified the issue, could you please forward it to the development team so they can review whether it should be treated as a bug report (or a feature request)?

Thank you for your support!

Best regards,
rakunavi
