Text fields and stamps are automatically embedded

Recently, text fields, stamps, etc., are being automatically embedded and can no longer be edited. Previously, I could embed these fields myself. My colleagues can't do this either. Where and how can I disable automatic embedding in the document?

There is no such "embedding" function in our software (I expect you mean the items are being "flattened" but again, that cannot happen automatically with the standard items mentioned).

More than likely what has happened is you have mistakenly enabled "exclusive mode" which prevents selection of existing items with the selected tool. Please look to the format tab, and ensure this is not enabled:
