[Version 11.0.0] Issue with saving files to Desktop as the initial folder in the new Custom "Save File As" dialog

Hello all,

In PDF-XChange Editor version 11.0.0, the "Save File As" dialog has been updated to a new custom dialog. I have noticed an issue where files sometimes cannot be saved if the initial folder opened by the dialog is the Desktop. When this happens, changing the directory to another folder (such as "Downloads") and then switching back to "Desktop" allows the file to be saved successfully.

Please note that this issue does not occur in all environments. In my case, it happens on 4 out of 5 of my test machines. Specifically, it occurs on the following 4 environments:

  • VMware Virtual PC (Japanese Windows 11)
  • VMware Virtual PC (English Windows 11)
  • HP All-In-One 22-c0xx (Japanese Windows 11 with English Language Pack)
  • Lenovo IdeaPad C340-15IWL (Japanese Windows 11 with English Language Pack)
The two VMware virtual PCs are clean environments used strictly for testing; they only have the latest Windows Updates installed and have never had any other third-party applications installed. Although this report does not fully meet my usual rigorous standards for a definitive issue report, I believe the fact that it occurs across both clean virtual environments and different physical machines warrants your attention, so I am reporting this for your reference.

I have attached a verification video demonstrating this behavior with three actions: saving a file, exporting comments, and exporting links.

In the video, you will see that the initial attempts fail when the destination is set to the default Desktop folder. Then, after changing the directory to the Downloads folder and switching back to the Desktop, the operations succeed. Please note that the mouse cursor movement may look a bit unnatural because I am using a trackball mouse.

This one I cannot seem to reproduce on this end with any of my test machines or VM's. Could I ask you to capture a process monitor log of the attempt (starting before you open the software, and ending a few seconds after clicking the "save" button two or three times in this state): https://www.pdf-xchange.com/knowledgeba ... or-Procmon

It would also help to have a video recording during the procmon log, so we can correlate the timestamps with the video and cross reference what is shown with the raw log data. Thank you for your response.

Following your instructions, I captured the Procmon log file and recorded a new video of the entire process to match the timestamps.

I have uploaded the zipped file (ProcmonLogWithVideo.zip) containing both the raw log data and the video to the file submission link you provided. Please take a look when you have a moment.

EDIT 1: The video I uploaded earlier had a slightly low resolution and was hard to see, so I’ve uploaded a clearer Full HD version under a different filename (ProcmonLogWithVideo_V2.zip). Please take a look.

EDIT 2: The issue persists in Version 11.0.1.
