file menu overlays document

Post by wannerlaufer »

Hi one of the recent updates apparently changed the behavior of the file menu, if you select "file" the appearing window t takes up the entire width of the screen. Before the update, I could still see large parts of the document, which is particularly useful when saving and naming a file.

How can I revert this to the way it was before?

When I use a preset save location, I can’t see the document at all, but if I select ‘Save to local file’, a standard Windows ‘Save As’ window opens and I can see the document... This significantly limits the usefulness of preset save locations.

Hello wannerlaufer,

It looks like your layout might have accidentally switched to the Ribbon UI.

You might want to try switching back to the Classic Toolbar to see if that fixes the issue. You can do this by selecting "Switch to Classic Toolbars" command under "UI Options" drop-down list in the top-right corner of the window.

I hope this helps.

I think what wannerlaufer is describing is the new custom dialog for opening/saving files takes up the entire window while the old system dialog appears as a small window over the PDF document. With the custom dialog, you can’t see the document you’re saving which makes it tricky to name it using details from the file. For example, I often start file names with dates from the PDF, but when the document is fully covered by the custom dialog, I can’t see the date. The system dialog, on the other hand, is a small, movable window that lets me view the document underneath and use its information to name the file. I wish there was a way to use the new open/save dialog and still have access to the underlying pdf (e.g., maybe make the new dialog its own window and allow switching back and forth to the underlying document in view only).

Wannerlaufer, you can turn off the new open/save dialog using the option in Preferences->General and check the box labeled "Use system dialog boxes to open/save files and select folders"
Features I really want:
1. Fully customizable toolbars: https://forum.tracker-software.com/viewtopic.php?p=167585
2. Ability to draw curved lines: https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/viewtopic.php?p=178335
