"Set current properties as default" in build 39 RC1

Post by ugradedeveloper »

Another user has observed on problem with the command "Set current properties as default" when used with Sticky-note comments (https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... =35&t=4474). I would like to add that I have similar difficulties with Text-Box comments in build 39 RC1. It seems that the default fill color cannot be set to transparent. If my text box has some other fill, and I select "Set current properties as default", it has the expected effect; but if my text box has a transparent fill, this does not become the default for future comments.

Is this a bug?

Thanks
Lewis

Hi Lewis,

"Make Current Properties as Default" works for all properties of annotations: as color, filling, strok etc., but not for 'subject' and 'author'
text..

For setup 'author' you need to enter some text in the fields on the Preferences->Identity tab.

Hope that helps

My question was about setting default fill color, not about the author property.

It works just fine here.

The thing about text boxes and other comments is that even if the opacity is set to less than 100, when you draw a new text box or comment, the focus is inside the text box or comment, and opacity is then displayed at 100% to make typing or editing easier. When the object is not being edited, its true opacity is as you have specified.

That is, the feature is working as designed, and this is not a bug. The opacity is meant to be 100% when editing the content. (If it wasn't, and you set a low opacity like 10% or 20% it would be rather difficult to read the content with the background text showing through.

I have a similar problem with the rectangular box tool.
If I draw a rectangular box, then fill it with a colour, then draw another rectangular box with "no fill", then apply the "set current properties" to the rectangular box with no fill, when I draw a third rectangular box, the fill colour re-appears.

In addition, I am having a problem with the verical scroll. I don't appear to be able to drag the scroll box anymore.

And, one more thing, like many others, I'd like to push for the copy and paste mark ups, or at least copy.
I have mentioned this before and the reply by the developers was that it was in consideration for some future release.
I am just making a nuisance of myself to keep the developer on his toes. :D

I cannot reproduce the rectangular box fill problem.

What is the scroll box?

I am sure that nagging about feature requests and insuating that they are not working hard enough annoys the developers. It would certainly annoy me. The developers know that this feature request is wanted by several users, so no doubt it will come when its ready.

Hi Bhikkhu,

Sorry, I meant the vertical scroll bar on the right hand side of the screen. If I hold the mouse down when over the scroll bar, I can't seem to drag it up or down.

My nagging was tongue in cheek. I think the developers will realise that.

We try and listen to all requests and as Bhikkhu mentioned we will get around to most of them at some point, just which ones first.

The problem is you guys are spoilt by us.

No offence taken we appreciate the feedback and ideas.

Thanks Tom,

I appreciate all your efforts. Yes, we are spoilt by you.
I love this software. I guess that with all the end user's, every one of us probably has some user specific suggestion that they would like to be included.
It's just a wonderful bonus if we can get what we ask for.

Does your document have more than one page? Are you in single page mode or continuous mode? What happens when you release the mouse after dragging down on the scroll bar?

Hi Bhikkhu,

Sorry for late reply. I have limited internet access.
I have actually rolled back to Build 38.2, so I will have to rely on memory to respond to your question.
The document was a single document, zoomed in to something like 150%.
After releasing the mouse, the document panned itself horizontally to the right.
That's what I can remember. Sorry if it's a bit vague.
I will surely have a go with the latest download soon and report any problem.

Incidentally, on Build 38.2, I still have the "current properties as default" problem with the rectangular box tool.

Bhikkhu,
Thank you.
I switched from single page layout to continuous page layout mode and the "dragging the vertical scroll bar" problem goes away.

Thanks.

That's good, but there is no problem. When in single page mode you should be seeing a page thumbnail which shows the page that will be viewed when you release the mouse. That is, the current page view doesn't change as you drag the scroll bar — only when you release it.
