PDFXChange Scan in Citrix

Post by Konfuzius »

Hello!

I am using PDFXChange in an Citrix pooled desktop environment.
To the environment: I am publishing several non persistent Windows 10 x64 21H2 desktops as full clones via Citrix. Profilemanagement is done via FSLogix.
Working with PDFXChange (x64), everything works fine, unless the scanning feature.
I am using Fujitsu Fi-7140 scanners with the drivers locally installed on the endpoint. When i'm trying to scan, PDFXChange is triggering the driver correctly as i can see the scanner interface. After that, nothing happens.
I am aware, that citrix does only support twain for x86. Is there any possible way, to get a workaround like a reg-key to get PDFXChange dealing with the twain_32.dll instead of twain_64.dll?

I am thankful for every idea!

Greetings!

HI Konfuzius,

thanks for the email and report.

Are you telling us that you are already using the 32 bit and want a way to force it or are you asking how to use the 32 but drivers from our software?

You should see TWAIN options in the GUI if the driver is installed:

Hello Paul,

thanks for your reply!
We tried both, the 64 and the 32 -bit driver. It shows up in the software without any problems on both platforms.
After clicking on scan the scanner interface shows up loading and again, nothing happens.
I actually don`t think its an "only PDFXChange-related" problem, because its the scanner interface showing up and doing nothing but loading.

Our question is, if there are any suggestions that should be kept in mind when using PDFXChange and scanners in virtual desktop environments?
Maybe you guys have any experience on that topic.

Hi Konfuzius,

that is some strong evidence the issue is outside the Editor, agreed.

Let me see if I can get some advice here from someone more knowledgeable than I. I have someone in mind but he's not here today.
Best regards

Hey Paul,

i did some further investigations in the meantime and got in contact to Citrix.
They state out, that TWAIN redirection is not available for x64 applications by now.
So i am forced to install PDFXChange as an x86 Application. Is this possible on a Windows 10 22H2 x64? Maybe there is a workaround?

Thanks in advance.

Greetings!

Hello Konfuzius,

You can get a copy of the Portable Editor:
Editor Potable Version (OCR included)
That is always only 32 bit and you can use that for your scanning needs, and the stand alone installed Editor for everything else.

Kind regards,
Stefan

Was there any solution? We also have a program that never starts scanning when klicked on Scan. We tried the newest portable version and it works. But with our scanning software nothing happens.

Hello, vatoj50117

First, this statement seems contradictory:

Could you clarify, when you say "it works" in the portable version, I presume you do mean the scanning software communicates with the portable version?
And by extension, when you say "nothing happens in the latter half, I presume you mean that same scanner software does not communicate with the installed version?

As a quick text, Does you scanner work with MS Paint in this environment?

We tried with the Sep 2022 (portable version) and it also works, so i think we have another problem... We have this very old delphi program that uses the delphi twain library... And when we try to scan it says Scanning... like in the screenshot, but nothing happens after that. We just thaught we ask here if anyone has an idea what could be going on... But we think it has something to do with TWAIN handling of the program and it does not correctly signal that it is ready to scan... But using it locally it works perfectly...

Hello, vatoj50117

Thank you for that. In that case, please try the following:

1. Ensure that our Editor is fully closed.
2. Open the installation directory (Based on your installed version this will likely be one of the following by defualt):
  • C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Editor
  • C:\Program Files\PDF-XChange\PDF Editor
3. In whichever is available, locate the "x86" and "x64" folders. rename them by adding .old to their names:
image.png
4. restart the PC, then try scanning once again.

Let me know if this works. If not, I will need to consult with our Dev team for the next steps.
