PDF-Tools MS Word converter creates malformed PDF – Acrobat reports “An error exists on this page”

Post by Bogdan T »

Hello,

I found a reproducible issue with PDF-Tools → Convert Files to PDF → MS Word File.

Using the attached Example Word.docx, PDF-Tools creates a PDF that looks normal in PDF-XChange Editor, but Adobe Acrobat shows:
“An error exists on this page. Acrobat may not display the page correctly.”

Attached problematic output: PDF Tools - Convert Files to PDF - MS Word File.pdf

If I convert the same DOCX with Adobe Acrobat Pro, the resulting PDF opens in Acrobat without any error: Adobe Acrobat Pro.pdf

I also tested PDF-Tools with Batch Processing and Multi-Threaded Processing disabled. The error still occurs, so the other actions in my normal task are not the cause.

The Acrobat warning appears to be caused by malformed image XObjects generated during the Word conversion.

Thanks,

I also attach the PDF Tools task.

Hello, Bogdan T

Thank you for the sample and report - I can confirm that this item has been reported and will be resolved with the next release of the software (11.1.0).
Unfortunately, we do not have a strict timeline for that release as of yet, and I am sorry to say I do not have a workaround to offer in the meantime.

Do keep an eye out for updates, I am hopeful it wont be much later than mid September, if all goes well.

Kind regards,
