Remove "Open from URL" from "Files" Menu

In the "Files" menu (Datei) the third item allows to open a PDF from an URL.

For security reasons, I'd like to disable this option (deactivate, grey out, remove from menu, ...). While there are a lot configuration items that can be customized, I wasn't able to find a switch/configuration option to disable this item. Did I miss something or is there no related option?

thanks for the excellent question.

Indeed the PDF-XChange editor is highly customizable in this respect. There is a section in the System Administration manual all about it here: https://help.pdf-xchange.com/sysadmin/e ... mands.html

In a nutshell:

• Find the command identifier
• Add it to the "Commands Availability" policy
• Add it to the "Commands Visibility" policy

In the Commands section of the Customize Toolbars dialogue, search for Open from URL. It should be the only result. Select it and hit Properties:

look for it's ID:

and use that in the Policy from the Templates, which are here: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/Tracker_AD_ ... plates.zip (from the manual page here: https://help.pdf-xchange.com/sysadmin/e ... lates.html)

Note that the cmd prefix is optional, omitting it does not stop the policy working.

Enable the policy and add openFromURL:0 to the list:

Do it for both Commands Availability as well as Commands Visibility to disable and also hide the command:

Next time the Editor starts it should pick up the policies and that option should be gone:

Following your guide I was able to manually achieve the desired result.
It will take a while until it's also implemented in the automated deployment.
