Save as orignal file after combining

Post by fatherchristmas »

I don't know if this is already a feature, but ai tells me it is not.

I had 85 files that I needed to change the text of. I combined the file, VERY quickly did 'find and replace' and also a space for replacing a string of text - therefore deleting it.

I went to save and then I realised my error - I can't overwrite the original files. The option is only a new combined file, or a new set of files with a new file name. A little annoying when the name of the file is coded like '04900945-bar-90945-ar-dw-101 - 01 Proposed Details for Stairs 1 of 3' etc.

I ended up having to open every file individually and delete the text and change the other text and then save the file.

Really annoying when the first way was incredibly fast.

Is there a way to resave the files back over the original files that were combined into the document? Or can this be added. Thanks

Hi fatherchristmas,

I'd suggest you use a workaround similar to the one detailed here:

viewtopic.php?p=189854

For example:

1. Open Combine Files and add the original PDFs.

2. In the combination options, enable Add root bookmark with filename. This creates bookmarks corresponding to the original documents.

3. Combine the files and perform your Find and Replace operations.

4. Go to Organize → Split → Split Document.

5. Set the splitting method to By using Bookmarks.

6. Set the output filename macro to %[Bookmark].

7. Select the folder containing the original PDFs.

8. Enable Overwrite Existing Files.

9. Split the document.

That should do the job for you.

Kind regards,
