[Crash] Thumbnail Viewer Crashes Explorer
When I tried to view the thumbnails of PDF files in Windows Explorer, the first few files showed up OK, but then I got a Debug Assertion Error.
I thought this might be due to a very large (279 Mbytes) test PDF I had in the folder (the thumbnail for that displayed OK after a short delay), so I moved it to a temporary folder, but I still get the error every time.
Error message and a couple of crash logs are attached.

Re: [Crash] Thumbnail Viewer Crashes Explorer
Looks like this bug is baaack!
OK. I haven't tried the Shell Extensions until now but today I decided that it might actually be a nice feature.
So, I hit Help->Check For Updates and I was prompted to install the latest available version of the extensions (I already had the latest viewer build)
So, I opened a folder with some pdf's in it and I selected View->Thumbnails.
I was greeted by the same behavior as Bhikkhu described in his initial post.
Attached is the crash log and a screenshot.

Seems to be the attached one.
It's the only one left in a folder.

Re: [Crash] Thumbnail Viewer Crashes Explorer
Hi,
I already sent an email about this crash via the report a problem function of the viewer on January, 23rd. But since I didn't get a response until now, I think either my mail or your response was classified as spam by a filter. So - to be sure, that you're aware of the problem, I'll post it here:
When the shell extension tries to create a preview image for the
attached pdf, explorer.exe crashes.
My configuration:
Windows XP, SP3 32bit,
XCShInfo.dll version: 2.0.40.7 (from latest PDF-XChange Viewer package)
Steps to reproduce the problem:
- Place the pdf in any folder, such that the extension tries to create a thumbnail image
=> explorer.exe crashes
What I tried to solve the problem:
- Extract page with PDF-XChange Viewer to a new document, but problem persists
- Print document with PDF-XChange printer driver: problem is solved, the new document doesn't crash the shell extension anymore, but I'm sorry, I wasn't able to figure out, how to produce a pdf which remains searchable. Is this possible with PDF-XChange Viewer? If yes, what am I supposed to change in the (printer) settings? (Print as image was
already unchecked)
Thank you,
Mike
