Is it possible to update PDF-XChange Viewer Portable?

Hi all,

I'm a n00b here. I have some questions:
- I am using the portable version. The menu Help > Check for Update is disabled. So I tried to copy "LiveUpdate.exe" in the folder of PDF-XChange Portable and executed it. Is it possible to update PDF-XChange Portable this way?
- What are resource.dat and Portable.dat files? Is it required to run this portable sweet software?
- What is ISTask.dll? (my portable version doesn't have this but the non-portable has!!!)

Sorry if my questions were so detailed (I am a minimalist!!!).

No, LiveUpdate cannot work with Portable version for some reasons: 1) LiveUpdate downloads installer which install new version; 2) Portable version can be stored on read-only media and we cannot update in such cases for sure.

Into resource.dat file stored some items which are necessary for correct working of the viewer (it is, for example, metrics of standard PDF fonts, icons and stamps for standard annotations, etc.).
portable.dat is a "fake" -- it is required only for the viewer to detect it is into portable mode. At least it is true for now, and we don't recomment to make any changes into this file because things can be changed in the future.

What is ISTask.dll? (my portable version doesn't have this but the non-portable has!!!)

ISTask.dll is a helper DLL for installer and it never used by the viewer itself, portable or not.

I know that 40.4 has been released, but I have no idea where to get the portable version. Could you at least give an url that always contains the latest version I (if update will be disabled forever in portable versions)? Thanks

Only the betas have different names and are in non-standard download locations
