[Bug] Deleting Password Protected Files

After installing the PDF Thumbnail extension I came across a problem with deleting password protected PDF files. When I attempt to delete them I cannot as the file is in use by another process. Of course, the shell extension cannot generate a thumbnail for protected files, but it won't let go of the file either.

Rebooting does not fix the problem as the extension is loaded at boot up.

Uinstalling the shell extension and rebooting fixes the problem.

Yes. No problem with others. The attached test file uses the password "Tracker."

It was saved from IrfanView using the PDF plugin.

I reinstalled the extension, and the problem has returned.

It doesn't matter if Windows Explorer is showing thumbnail view or details view — I still cannot delete the file. The problem was first reported on the IrfanView support forum, which is how I discovered it, when testing what at first seemed to be a bug with IrfanView's PDF plugin.

Will the shell extension show in TaskManager as a running process that can be terminated?

No, Shell extension doesn't shown in the process tree -- it is loaded within the Explorer process.

Which OS do you use? Vista, XP, x32 or x64 ?

See my sig. XP Home SP2. I don't know whether that's 32x or 64x. The processor is 64-bit.

I can reproduce the problem with WinXP SP3, 32 bit. Since the system runs in a virtual machine with almost no software (especially no IrfanView) installed, I could say pretty sure, that's a problem with the thumbnail plugin.

When you try to reproduce it, please be sure, that a thumbnail should be generated by the explorer process. With the "classic folder view" and any view except the thumbnail view, the problem doesn't occur.
But if either "Show common tasks in folder" [Tools -> Folder Options] is enabled or thumbnail preview is selected, the file gets locked. A process monitor showed, that it's in use by explorer.exe.
