Searching without opening file

The Readme_VWR.txt file that comes with the installation zip contains the following statement referring to the shell extension:

Perform search functions without actually opening the files and much more.

How do I do the search? What else can it do ("much more")? Thanks.

Shell extension contains:
1. Thumbnail provider for PDF files -- it works when into Explorer window you chose view -> Thumbnails
2. Tooltips provider - tooltips for PDF files where Author, Title, number of pages etc, shown.
3. Columns provider - into Explorer under W2k/XP you into detailed view, you can choose which columns should be shown
4. Properties provider - works under Vista and shows the properties for PDF files in bottom area of Explorer window
5. IFilter interface for PDF files - it allows Windows Search to search into PDF files (it is means seaching without opening file). To use it you need to install Windows Search.
6. Preview handler - it works under Vista into Explorer window when Preview pane is turned on, and into Office Outlook 2007.
