Animated GIF images

Post by hansw »

I'd like to use the PDF-XChange viewer for technical manuals.
It would be great to have animated GIF images animate!

I have used Animated GIF images for many technical subjects and would not consider using the flash player as Acrobat uses... GIFs have are lot smaller to distribute.

Does PDF-XChange animate GIFs ? I do understand that there are limitations when it comes to hard copy, but most of my manuals are read with a computer.

The GIF patent has expired many year ago so I can't understand the reluctance for developers to it it.

Does the PDF specification support animated GIF images? Apparently Adobe Reader will show only the first frame. Try using Shockwave Flash instead.

No, PDF specification doesn't support animated images. (and more importantly - the PDF specification doesn't support LZW compression used by GIF files).
