Checkbox does not initiate event to viewer control

Checkbox does not initiate event to viewer control
Hi non-text field controls (checkboxes, etc...) do not initiate events to the control's OnEvent function. Is this by design? If so, how do I get a message that a non-text field is selected (ie. received focus/lose) to my application? Thanks.
