Portable Applications Folder (unwanted)
Hello. Every time I open a pdf, I now get a new folder on my destkop titled Portable Applications Folder. I don't run any portable apps on any of the computers I use. How can I stop the software from creating this folder every time? I can delete it every time but it will come back the next time I open a pdf. I've rooted around in the settings and can't find anything to stop that (annoying) "feature". I've got a busy machine with lots on it but pride myself on a tidy desktop (yeah, I'm kinda retentive that way). Help! Thanks. Pete

To be honest it is very strange -- PDF-XChange Viewer doesn't create any folders on Desktop.
Can you send report via "Help -> Report a Problem..."? I need to check settings of your viewer. Any PDF file opening which unwanted folder is created can be helpful too.

Okay, I've sent the appropriate info through the viewer. Also, I forgot to mention in that message that it's not happening with just one particular pdf file I open but any pdf file I open. I run dual monitors and when I have the pdf open on the secondary monitor, I see the new folder created / pop into existence on the primary monitor which has the desktop. Very odd. Pete

Looks like you have still - installed Portable Apps and before (or even now) you had used a portable version of FireFox.
Now this system watches for Firefox (including its plugins), and because when you have choosen to browse PDFs in your browser, the PDF-XChange viewer during startup tries to register its own Firefox plugin (it copies it into the Firefox plugins folder), and looks like your Portable Apps catches this copying and moves this file into the Portable Applications Folder.

Re: Portable Applications Folder (unwanted)
Some of what you say is true. I do have Portable apps on a flash drive but not on this machine. It isn't an install, per se, but is completely self-contained. The beauty of it is that nothing is installed on a system - it runs strictly from the flash drive. There is nothing found in Add/Remove or Program Files. I can run the Firefox browser and several other portable utilities, straight from the flash drive, alike on any machine - and any saved info is put on the flash drive - not the system. It worked fine on my machine at work and appeared to run fine on this one, though it's rare I do now. Is there any way PDF XChange viewer can be stopped from trying to register a link with portable apps on my machine? The folder it creates on my desktop doesn't belong there - and certainly isn't needed?

Re: Portable Applications Folder (unwanted)
Try to uncheck the option "Display PDF in Browser" on "File Associations" of viewer preferences.
Also, please note, if you need to use PDF-XChange viewer as portable application, you don't need any external tools for this.

Re: Portable Applications Folder (unwanted)
Okay... unchecking the box as you suggested does stop it from creating the folder called Portable Applications on my desktop. Great! ...and thanks. Of course, by doing this, pdf's will no longer open with Mozilla or IE but that's not as bad as having the eternal folder recreated on my desktop every time I use the viewer. I honestly didn't understand your last sentence; though I thought I'd point out that the dll file that was at the root of the folder (that kept recreating on the desktop) was functional when I pasted it into the Plugins folder of the portable version of Firefox on the flash drive. Firefox portable is capable of opening pdf's in the browser window with the viewer, using that dll. Thanks. Pete
