"include comments" not selectable in build 40.7 pro

Post by chillrobot »

While using build 40.7 pro, go to Edit | Search | Options. "Include comments" is not selectable.

It may be that the app's notion of what counts as a comment is more restrictive than my sense. I have both of these in the doc:

1) a highlighted segment that I had clicked to add text

2) typewriter text

If these are not considered comments by the app, is there a way to search among these kinds of markup in addition to the main text?

Typewriter text and highlighting is markup, not comments. You can find this kind of markup by using the Comments pane, and sorting by Type.

Anyway, the feature is not implemented yet, so one cannot yet search for comments. That's why it is greyed out. Showing unrealised features is a bit unorthodox, but it hints at what is coming in the future, and may save some programming effort.

Your version is out of date too. Check for updates on the help menu. The latest build is 41.2.

I'm using the portable version. Ironically, the "check for updates" option is grayed out.

In most apps, graying-out/disabling is used to indicate implemented features that need some contextual factor to become true. I think your users won't know how to tell the difference between this case and your "unimplemented" case.

btw, the highlighter, typewriter, and portability features rock, and I'm happy to pay for a license just for those abilities. I look forward to more.
