Problem displaying in IE7 under Win XP

Post by vzbv »

Hi,

i have just installed the pro Version of the Viewer, and even though it properly displays PDFs in Firefox it does not in IE 7 (under Win XP, completely updated).

I have checked the Addons in IE, the PDF XChange Viewer is enabled.

I tried to solve the problem by disabling the Adobe PDF Reader Addon (with which we always were able to display the PDF in the browser) so it does not does not interfere, but still the PDFs don´t open in IE but always in the external program window of the viewer.

Any suggestions?

Kind regards and have a nice weekend

All seems to be working OK here (was OK in IE7, now in IE8).

Are you opening PDF files from a link, or dragging them from the hard disk into Explorer?

I´m opening the PDF from a link on a website, and in IE 7 they then open in the external viewer.

If i open the same PDF from the same website in firefox it is displayed properly in the browser.

The website i´m talking about is our corporate intranet for which we use the software Livelink by Open Text, and a lot of the advanced functions of Livelink can only be accessed through IE, so we need to use IE.

And we have a lot of PDF in this intranet and want our users to display them in the browser so they can easily navigate from the PDF to other parts of the website without having to switch the program window. So we need a PDF Viewer that properly works with IE.

The problem only occurs with PDF Viewer, when we use Acrobat Reader the PDF are properly displayed in the browser.

Problem solved.

I seem to have found out what caused the problem.

I had installed the Viewer with an account with administrative rights, but did not do any settings under this account. I then switched to my normal user account (that has no administrative rights) and did the settings to use Viewer as default program for displaying pdf and for display in browser there.
It seems like this was not sufficient, at least for use in IE, because after that the problems described above occured.

Ihave now logged into my account with administrative rights again, did the settings there, then went back to my normal user account, and now everything works fine.

Does that behaviour of the viewer make sense to you? Is this as it should be? Or shouldn´t it be possible to do these settings in every account separately, even if the administrator did not do any settings when installing the software?

An answer would be appreciated as we plan to roll out the viewer to over 1500 users and we would like to reduce the workload of our administrators.

Kind regards, Carsten

Thanks for the appreciation ;-)

Please also think of answering my questions from last post:
Does that behaviour of the viewer make sense to you?
Is this as it should be?
Or shouldn´t it be possible to do these settings in every account separately, even if the administrator did not do any settings when installing the software?
