One particular batch of files are causing us problems at the moment. They don't open in Adobe Acrobat v8, and we can't install v9 on our network because of a bug Adobe seem reluctant to fix.
The PDF's open fine with the default viewer in Ubuntu, but with PDF-XChange we're getting the same kind of error we had with Acrobat 8:
"Error opening document..... ; Error [PDF Structure 40]: Invalid file format".
Can anybody tell me if this is actually a problem with the PDF file. It's hard to be sure when we can't run the latest version of Acrobat, and we've now had one independent viewer work, and another fail.
thanks,
Ross

Re: Problems opening a file
I also had problems opening it in PDF-XChange Viewer or Adobe Reader 7.0
Serif PagePlus and OpenOffice Draw don't recognise it as a PDF document.
However, IrfanView 4.23 opens it without any problem using the Ghostscript plugin, and everything looks fine. I saved it as a 16 colour PNG image. Perhaps this method will provide you with a workaround while you're wating for a fix. I would ask how this batch of files was produced, and see if they can use a different method, e.g. printing to a PDF printer driver.

Re: Problems opening a file
Reason is very simple: even if the file has extension .pdf, in real it is PostScript file.

Heh, this was a PDF printer driver. Not a very good one though by the sounds of it. Thanks folks, looks like it's back to the drawing board with these.
