Hyperlinks don't open

Hi,
Since updating to IE 7, two or three days ago, the hyperlinks in PDF XChange Viewer don't work. they don't open, and I receive the following error message:

Couldn't open the http://www.whatever.com;
Error [operating system]: the system cannot find the file specified.

The hyperlinks never worked very well from PDF Xcgange viewer. It would always say something like "links not found," but then it did open them nevertheless in my default browser Firefox.

I think I have the latest version of PDF XChange Viewer 2.0 build 38.1

I have XP SP2 and I almost always use Firefox 2.

The hyperlinks have stopped working in Open Office also. They did work fine until now.

Can you help me? I have no idea what I could do to solve this problem.

Not much anyone can do to help without a sample file in which the links don't work for you.

Are you making your own PDF files, or downloading them from somewhere? Do the links work if you open the PDF files in Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader?

Thanks for your reply. I see I didn't explain my problem well enough.

It's not about a pdf file I create.

I'll try to describe it again:

I open a pdf file in PDF XCgange viewer that have links embedded. If I click on any of these links, they don't open. I get the error I mentioned in my first post.

I understood the first time, but you didn't answer my questions. Do these links work in Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader?

Links in PDF files work fine here, so either something is wrong with your system, or it is a problem with a particular PDF file. We cannot fix your system for you, but we could test a file with links that don't work for you to confirm whether the problem lies with PDF-XChange or something else on your setup. Maybe there are some special kinds of links that PDF-XChange doesn't support yet, in which case knowing how the PDF was produced would help.

If the links do open in other readers, but not from PDF-XChange, then post such a file here so that someone can test it for you to narrow down the likely causes. Otherwise, I suggest you visit the FireFox forums and ask there, as the problem would seem to be nothing to do with PDF-XChange.

i have the same Problem but Adobe Reader open the File correct and Foxit Reader cannot open the File. I post a rar file open it to show the pdf.
Please Help me.

I tried many different things, and as I'm not an IT expert in any way it's difficult for me to pinpoint exactly what fixed my problem, not completely, but almost. I thought I would have to reinstall xp, but fortunately I didn't have to.

I reinstalled my default browser Firefox twice and finally the links from pdfs and open office work again or most of the times. I also had to reinstall several applications I regularly use to make them work again.

Before that I had tried many registry repair applications to no avail. But it's always worth trying.

My problems with the application links seemed to start after the upgrade to IE 7 and the installation of netframe 3.5 that I needed for a certain application. But as I said I don't know 100% if this was the cause.

It could also be a virus, trojaner or malware, or even spyware. I run several antivirus programs and found two problems. Maybe this was rather the cause. I use avast antivirus downloadable at avast com. There's a free version. And zonealarm is my firewall.

It sometimes helps trying to remember if you installed a new application.

I hope that someone more savvy that I am can really help you.

Index.pdf has green links on the diagram pointing to several other files. When clicked in PDF-XChange the files cannot be found because they haven't been downloaded. Adobe Reader gives no error message, but obviously cannot find the files either.

As far as I can tell, the index.pdf needs several other files to accompany it. Then I presume that the links will work in any PDF reader.

This index.pdf is the First File of the Hompage but at the Homepage ist username and Password require that i have. But I cannot open this File with PDF XCHange when i logged in in the Homepage.
Only with Adobe Reader.

And the Path in the Error Message is not correct it is a Link not local!

I post the error Message in an rar File from PDF XChange only in German.

I don't think it has anything to do with PDF-XChange. It doesn't open in Foxit either, or in Writer. But I hope somebody knows the solution.

Best case if you could give me original document of its URL, and I will check and say where the problem is.

As I've said, it's not related to any specific document. It's the same for every pdf file I have.

It used to work just fine the past, but now it doesn't.
I'm pretty sure it's an error somewhere inside Windows, but don't know where exactly.

We checked it, it works properly.
Possible reason: you system not contains special handler (or it is wrong) for 'http' protocol. For check it: please make one valid html file on your local disk (by saveas from browser), and try to open this file in Windows Explorer (by double-click). System should be launch default internet browser for this case. If not - your system have a problem.

The file association for htm/html/aspx/whatever is ok, opens normally. I'll try to reinstall my browser now.

Do you have firewall software installed? Maybe the reason is that your firewall is not configured to let PDF-XChange Viewer access to the internet?

PDF-XChange Viewer doesn't access the internet, it only tells the browser to access it.

Anyway, I switched to another system image ("reinstalled windows") and it's working normally. But I'm still curious about this issue...
