cannot copy comments

Post by kt »

I have a pdf that has its document properties set to allow adding comments but not copying/extraction. The problem is that I cannot even copy the comments I add myself. It would be nice if the ban on copying only applied to the original document, and not to comments that I append to it.

You can copy the comments, but only the text in the comments. Copying of annotation objects is not enabled yet — it is not restricted in any way.

Copying the text of the comments is what I was trying to do. I'll try attaching the pdf file.

I see. It is a bit of a hindrance, but I guess there is no easy way to protect only some content and not other content.

A workaround — open a copy of notepad and write your comments in that.

You can paste text into comments, but not copy from them. You can delete text in comments or overwrite it by pasting.

Do you have a license to use the PDF-Tools?

Then you can use this as a bypass:
Using the PDF-Optimization option from PDF-Tools, you can de-activate the security flag. Afterwards, you can use PDF Viewer to summarize the comments.
(This may be prohibited for copyright reasons)
