no text in PDF files
Some PDF files show only pictures and special symbols (Greek, math etc), but no plain text.
An example of such file is attached. Other viewers (Gsview, Adobe) read the same file all right.
Thanks!

Re: no text in PDF files
It's fine for me as per the screenshot below.. All text is visible in Xchange Viewer Pro. Something about your system, in combination with the Xchange software must be at fault. That might be hard to sort out.mazin wrote:Some PDF files show only pictures and special symbols (Greek, math etc), but no plain text.

No problem here either in the free version. You may be using an old version of PDF-XChange Viewer.
Check for updates from the Help menu. The latest build is currently 41.5.

To mazin: If the problem still exists with the latest version of the Viewer on your system, please send report via Help -> Report a Problem and check option to send us information about installed fonts on your system. Screenshots of "Fonts" page of Document Properties (File -> Document Properties) will be helpful too.

Re: no text in PDF files
Thanks to everybody, spasibo Ivan,
I have been using the free version, till recently had no problem. In fact I was about to upgrade to Pro, since I liked it so far. But then suddenly this strange thing happened. I upgraded to the latest version, did not help.
I checked the document properties and found something that seems relevant:
Several fonts had a red exclamation point, like for instance:
Times-Roman
Type: Type1
Encoding: Custom
Actual Font Type: Unknown
Invalid
Clearly something is wrong with my fonts, but what? Other offending fonts in this document are Times-Bold and Times-Italic, but the Times-BoldItalic font is OK, and refers to an "Actual Font: TimesNewRomanPS-BoldItalicMT", a TT font. In my Windows Font directory I have all four Times New Roman Fonts, and they are all four perfectly usable by other applications.
Any help will be very much appreciated!

P.S.
I did send a report from the Help tab, yesterday, but I do not understand how could I get any feedback: It never asked me for my e-mail address or my support forum name.

Re: no text in PDF files
Thank you Cadillakin, I understand that my viewer cannot find these fonts, which the document requests, but I do not understand why. The fonts seem to be there, other PDF viewers find them. And in fact XChange also used to be able to find them! Do you have any idea, why it may have this problem?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Looks like the file resource.dat was missed. This file contains metrics for standard PDF fonts (and a lot more besides), like Times-Roman used into this document.Cadillakin wrote:Aha.. The old uninstall, reboot and reinstall trick!mazin wrote:THANKS EVERYBODY!

Actually, no. I moved this file out and the viewer was still finding (and printing) all fonts, just the formatting was all screwed up.
