Single-key Shortcuts Work When Text Editing

Post by Bhikkhu Pesala »

This is a signficant change that has messed up my customisation.

I assigned shortcuts such as: t = Typewriter tool; Shift T = Select text tool, etc.

These did not work before when typing text, now they do, which makes it impractical to use such shortcuts at all. That's a big loss of usability as one now always needs to assign a combination such as Ctrl or Alt + Shortcut.

Was it really necessary to change this behaviour while in a text editing context?

I'm not sure this is related, but I have "H" assigned to highlight the selected text. It doesn't work in the nevest version (I see that "H" is still set for highlighting selected text).

Reverting back to 24102, everything's working fine.

Single key shortcuts are still working for me, including "h" for the highlight tool. The only problem is that they also work when typing text in comments or the Find toolbar.

It seems to be fixed here. What exactly is not working as expected?

I select text (Select Text/Object Tool) with mouse and press key H. This should highlight the selected text. It does not.

It doesn't work from the toolbar either, though the tooltip says that it should. H still selects the highlight tool, which works as expected.

As I said, there is sth going on!

I have another problem, in the new version, when I close the file from command line, the file doesn't reopen on the "last visited page".

One thing that I see different with the new version is that in the installation process the new version asks only for the installation directory location up to "Tracker Software" whereas the older versions asks for installation directory up to "PDF-XChange Viewer", i.e. "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\". Maybe this is the reason of some problems ... maybe not

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr, back to v24102 (almost HALF A YEAR old, last version where everything worked as it should), which means still no "reopen tabs", so annoying ...

Your points are noted - one of the problems is we have tried at times to keep everyione happy and cover all bases ..

there is a "saying you cannot please all the people all of the time .."

In truth I think we have to be a bit more discriminating and not try to do this - your points are valid and we are trying to address this ASAP.

Thanks for your patience - we are trying to get it right.

understood, but the point here is that it's not like I'm asking for new features, these are error reports on the existing ones ...

I think you misunderstood what John was saying. If I have it correctly, they made a change in order to accomodate a request from someone else, and it broke the behavior that you were counting on.

When I create a shortcut key for the highlight tool it does not actually highlight selected text. It simply has the effect that clicking the highlight button would have of turning on this tool. I need to select again the text I want highlighted after using my keyboard shortcut. My reading of your comment is that you want to be able to select text with the regular select tool and hit your keyboard shortcut and have that selected text highlighted.

Am I understanding what you want correctly or have I missed the point here?

I'm talking about "Highlight Text" (Bhikkhu brought into conversation "Highlight Text Tool" that works as you explain at the beginning of your post. These are two different things, at least in the Customize->Commands->Tools window).

You understand correctly what I want, and this actually works that way all the way up to the 2.0412

In the last two builds, this feature is broken

This is functioning "correctly" again in 42.4. I am testing prior to release tomorrow (assuming nothing glaring was missed). Now text highlighted with the "Select tool" will have underline, strikethrough and highlight applied directly upon hitting that tool bar icon.
