How to view attachment inside PDF

Post by h.elmer »

Hello,

We use PDF-files with attached documents (see attached files).
How is it possible to use these attachments with PDF-XChange Viewer (we use the professional version)?
Attached you can find a screenshot how it is managed in acrobat reader and a sample file:
Attachment.zip
Thank you,
Best regards,

Hannes

That's right, so we all have to prioritise - PDFs with attachments are getting more used and a viewer without the capability to show them or even show a hint that there are attachments (might I ask for such a feature being implemented in b42?) is not state of the art.

I see many other new features, which are not as important as compatibility with current PDF-file-format definitions.

Newly added feature User Interface Added Search providers for selected text (can be added/removed into preferences).
Newly added feature User Interface Added creation new document from RTF file (not all RTF features are supported for now).
Newly added feature User Interface Added Tabs Re-Ordering feature.

Maybe a voting system about planned new features would be helpful also for you to know, what is important for your customers.

If I open a document that has file attachments, PDF-XChange Viewer shows the "pushpin" icon just as Adobe does - though, of course, it doesn't do anything if I double-click the icon.

I haven't tested with sound attachments, which is the only other type of attachment as far as I know.

In my case it's a PDF with PDFs inside. There's absolutely no hint regarding attachments.

Same with me, yet I see the indications of where the attachments are. I think you should send the file to the Tracker folks so they can examine it.

Have you tried to open my "attacment.zip" from my very first posting in this thread? Where do you see an indicator?

Very sorry... my bad... I was being lazy and didn't look back at your first post.

Evidently this file uses a different method of attaching files than the one I am familiar with. I am accustomed to using a tool which bears a pushpin icon, in order to use it you need to click somewhere on a page of the document. Having done this, it puts a pushpin image on the page at that point; double-clicking on it will open the attached file.

This is a method that goes back to Adobe Acrobat 5 at least. Evidently they have introduced a new method which does not require associating the attached file with a specific spot on a page of the document.

Sorry I didn't look at your sample file to begin with before posting. :(

Hi,

we are working on this now - and I can confirm it will be in 42.x - if possible in the next release.

But for sure - it will be in build 42.x - thats a promise!

Hi Guys,

Great work on the file attachments/embedded files in new build.

One question, is it possible to programmatically add a file attachment using either the viewer sdk or the tools library. I think it is possible to call the doverb to open the Add File Attachment dialog. But is it possible to pass the file path of the file you wish to attach. A vb6 example of how to do it if possible would be fantastic.

Thanks for all the hard work.

Hi docu-track99,

I believe the end-user functionality is available now and the SDK attachment support will be added to them next build.
