Turning off "Tab Preview"

Post by necromancer »

Don"t remember which version it was implemented in, but have come to regard the Preview that appears when cursor passes over a Tab highly annoying. Is there a way to disable the feature?

Yes, there is a way, but via registry editing.

To turn preview off you need to add DWORD value ShowTabThumbnails with value of 0 (zero) into the registry by path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFViewer\View

Or use the following reg file:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Tracker Software\PDFViewer\View]
"ShowTabThumbnails"=dword:00000000

Yes, I like it too. In my browser (Opera) I find it a bit annoying, but the implementation in PDF-XChange is neat and useful.

Thanks for the registry modification to fix what apparently is "my problem".

Don't get me wrong, when using File|Recent File the preview feature is close to being indispensable. However, when several files are already open I don't need a picture to remind me what I looking at. :P

necromancer,

We are glad when you are :)

As for the previews when you mouse over tabs, I myself like them very much, they are really cool looking :)

Stefan

Added feature to enable/disable tab thumbnails into build 42.3. Option available into tab's popup menu.

To use the new feature will it be necessary to remove the Registry patch?

necromancer,

Ivan will have to confirm that but I presume that the setting would be modifying the same registry value so you won't have to mess with the registry on your own again :)

No necromancer,

I would assume that the check box in the options menu will be altering that same registry key as well. So it will be set to the workaround Ivan gave you if the check box remains unchecked. If you install the next version that includes that option it may by default switch it back on, but then you'll have to just go to the options again and possibly turn it off. It's just a switch, on or off, 1 or 0.

Chris
