Link to DOS-batch not working

Post by tim13 »

Problem: Link to a DOS batchfile does not work after saving and reopen

Strange: But when I take one of the .bat-links and just do the linking process again... then (going into select mode) all the other links in the document work too... but only until I save and reopen.

Thanks ahead for any help in this matter...

Which build number of the viewer do you use?

My XChange is Version 2.0 (Build 41.5) - I installed also the latest (it says 2.0 (Build 42.0) [beta]) but no difference in this matter...

As said before, when working inside XChange on the bat-links and switching to the select mode it works, but not when just opening the (saved) documents in XChange and clicking the bat-links.

When the link is working it goes this way:
1.) Over the link a hand-symbol appears, also the address of the bat-file
2.) When the link is clicked... for a second a DOS-window pops up and the bat-content is triggered

When the link is NOT working it goes this way:
1.) Over the link a hand-symbol appears, also the address of the bat-file
2.) When the link is clicked... for about half a second a DOS-window pops up and the bat-content is NOT triggered

The bat-files are okay, when I click on them in a file-manager they work fine.

Thanks so long!

And maybe I better give you some additional infos:

The .bat-files all have one line of text for CLAMP, a program to start winamp-files at a set time.

For example this bat-text: CLAMP /LOADNEW "talking.mp3" /PLAY /JUMP 57000
makes CLAMP to start Winamp with talking.mp3 at exactly sec 57.

All triggered from inside PDF and there would be much more potential...

(CLAMP is available at http://membres.lycos.fr/clamp/)

I went into this problem again, recorded the screen as screencast to see in slow motion what´s going on, when NOT working properly...

The menu of the DOS box says 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe'

This error message inside the DOS-Box:

'CLAMP is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file'

Hi Tim13,

Can you confirm that the path to the CLAMP executable is in your PATH statement in Windows environment variable? That is typically why one would get the error you cited. Alternativly include the full path to the CLAMP executable in your bat file.

No, this was missing, added the path to the autoexec.bat and restarted.

Now as a precaution a full path in each bat-command for the mp3-files also, like 'CLAMP /LOADNEW "c:\mp3\opera\best.mp3" /PLAY /JUMP 91000' and no path problems will occur ever again...

Thanks a lot, wouldn´t have made it without your great help!
