[Bug] Uninstall

Hi guys,

just installed new versions of the drivers (165) and viewer (42.2). Before installing I did try to make full uninstall of the both products.
They was both installed under C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\. When uninstalling Viewer, there was silently deleted complete folder (including print drivers & tools) !!!
Other thing: why are under C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\ two folders for viewer?
1 - C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\ with Help and uninstall
2 - C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange Viewer\ with application itself

Just for info my system is WinXP Pro SP3 Cz 32bit

Thats not the full PDF-XChange PRO install (PDFXVwerSE.exe) thats the Viewer installer - inclusive of the shell extensions ..

I know about this. But for builds <165 there was not Viewer included in Driver installation, so I was installing both applications separately.
Now using common installer

does that mean that builds >= 165 of PDF-XChange Pro now also includes the PDF-Viewer? Is the shell-extension package also included?

Hi ralf,

I believe that is the case, I just got back from vacation, but the dev team can correct me if I am wrong.

All components, including shell extensions, should be incorporated into the PRO installers.

I just tried the new PDF-XChange bundle with the following installation options:

PDFX_wV.exe /VERYSILENT /NORESTART
/COMPONENTS="pdfSaver,PDFXChangedriver,PDFTools4,Office2PDF,OfficesAddin,Help,Languagess,pdfviewer,IEAddin,FFAddin,ShellExtensions"
/PDEFAULT /PDFV /PDFVINBROWSER /Key:"..." /UserName:"..." /Organization:"..." /UserEmail:"..." /LANG=gr /NODESKICON

PDF-Xchange and PDF-Tools installation still works fine. But there are some problems with the viewer installation.
This is what I noticed:

• Shell extensions were installed!
• /PDFV option works! Double-clicking an PDF-file in the explorer opens it with PDF-Viewer.
• /PDFVINBROWSER option is ignord. Files in browser are still displayed with Adobe Acrobat plugin. One have to change it manually via the preferences menu.
• /LANG= option is ignored. Although I specified German as default language the viewer interface is in English. The language directory in "PDF Viewer" is completely missing.
• /NODESKICON option is ignored. The installer places a PDF-Viewer icon on the desktop.
• /COMPONENTS="Help" The users manual for the viewer is not installed. The help folder in "PDF Viewer" is missing.

So still some work to do!

I again tried the combined installation of PDF driver, tools and viewer with the lastest build 4.0167 with the above installation options:

• No shell extentions available!
• /LANG= options is still ignored for the PDF viewer installation! Languages files for the viewer were not installed.
• /COMPONENTS="Help" is also ingnored for the viewer. No help folder and thus no users manual for the PDF viewer.
• /PDFVINBROWSER option might still be ignored. Actually I didn't test it.

• /NODESKICON option worked correctly - there was no icon nstalled to the desktop
• /PDFV option works! Double-clicking an PDF-file in the explorer opens it with PDF-Viewer.

With regards the help file and the language settings - we will be investigating this further.

Help file and the language settings for PDF-Viewer is still missing in the latest release of PDF-XChange Pro 4.0.168!

2 ralf: Please run installer with /Help command line option, and you will see window with list of all command line options supported, component names, etc.

ahhhh.... Ok, you added some new keywords/components (PDFVHelp, PDFVLanguagess) to the installer. I didn't notice that. Works fine now! Help and language files were installed now! Thanks!

But now I found a small new problem. Have a close look at the start menu folder:

PDF-Xchange and PDF-Viewer both install links to their help files:
PDF-Xchange:

• PDF-XChange License -> %PROGRAMFILES%\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange 4\Help\PDFXMan.pdf
• PDF-XChange Users Manual -> %PROGRAMFILES%\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange 4\Help\PDFXLicense.pdf

and PDF-Viewer:

• PDF-XChange License -> %PROGRAMFILES%\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\Help\PDFVLicense.pdf
• PDF-XChange Users Manual -> %PROGRAMFILES%\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\Help\PDFVManual.pdf

But since both menu entries have the same name (PDF-XChange License / PDF-XChange Users Manual) the PDF viewer menu entries overwrite the links to the according PDF-Xchange help files. So users no longer have easy access to the PDF-Xchange user manual...
Maybe you should rename the viewer menu links into something like "PDF-XChange Viewer License" and "PDF-XChange Viewer Manual"?

And finally... When running "PDFX4_wV.exe /help" the installer continues the installation process after pressing the OK button on the help window. I think /help should only display the options and then stop.
