Usage of tooltips

Is there any way to configure the Viewer so that tooltips will display over annotations, but not over form fields?

No, Viewer AX doesn't have such properties. But in new build you will be able to deny showing tooltips for all comments (and forms).

I know that tooltips can be turned on or off, either by the user through the program Preferences, or through the SDK. I have a particular form where I don't want the field names to be appearing in tooltips; but this form can be combined with documents that might have comments, and I do want tooltips to appear over the comments.

After I posted my message, however, I realized that it is possible to specify in the PDF form what tooltip text should appear for each field, and that this tooltip text will be used in place of the field name. Kind of obvious, really, I'm surprised I didn't figure it out sooner. Anyway that resolves my problem.
