thumbnails not displayed in Windows 7
Hi, just to inform pdf thumbnails are not displayed well in Windows 7. PDF files appear most of time as a black rectangle, that is very annoying.
Thanks.

Do you use x64 or x86 version?

Hi mrcastl,
I'm not clear from your description if it is the thumnails PDF-XChange Viewer shows within the program itself or the preview thumbnails in Windows Explorer you are refering to here.

Re: thumbnails not displayed in Windows 7
Do you have the Shell extensions installed? There should be a folder like this: C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF-XChange\Shell Extension or similar path. They should have been installed with the Viewer. Did you use the .exe or .msi installer?
Using the .exe installer on my Win7 test box I find some PDFs thumbnail correctly and others do not. I've passed this in to the dev team boys and hope to have something back soon.

Re: thumbnails not displayed in Windows 7
I get a similar thing on x64 Windows 7. Interesting that it is only some files. We will follow that up for sure.

Re: thumbnails not displayed in Windows 7
Thanks ne14st for bumping this topic. Our dev team have been rather preoccupied with the major additions to the most recent build and it appears that this 'slipped through ther cracks' so to speak. As Stefan mentioned it is back on our radar now and I am hopefull for a resolution soon.
Thanks for keeping me honest here...

I'm seeing the same thing here with the RC. Previous builds of Windows 7 were fine for me but now I have black boxes in the Explorer...but I do have images in the preview pane.Paul - Tracker Supp wrote:As Stefan mentioned it is back on our radar now and I am hopefull for a resolution soon.

Re: thumbnails not displayed in Windows 7
I experience the same issues under Win 7 x64 RTM here.
If the pdf files are located on the desktop, simply pressing F5 does the trick to bring the correct previews onto the screen.
In an explorer window the refresh-trick doesn't work. Also, if you copy the regarding pdf files to the desktop the thumbs will be immediately displayed correctly.
Furthermore, it seems that though we get black boxes, the aspect ratio of the boxes correspond to the actual document's aspect ratio.
Clearing the thumbnail cache brings all the thumbs back (for now at least):
1. Open elevated command prompt (open start menu type cmd, hold down ctrl+shift, hit enter, confirm)
2. Close explorer (open the start menu, hold down shift and ctrl and bring up the context menu, select exit explorer)
3. cd to \Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
4. delete all thumbcache_*.db files (if you want to display them first, don't forget to use the /a switch with dir)
5. close command prompt
6. either restart or open a new explorer via taskmanager (shift+ctrl+esc) -> run -> type explorer -> enter
(it is better to not start it from the elevated cmd prompt)
7. see what happened
Finally one could think it is a Windows issue. Perhaps the images get cached before they are rendered completely.
Just assumptions...

Re: thumbnails not displayed in Windows 7
Good news,
The problems with thumbnails in Windows 7 are now fixed, the fix will be available with the next build as usual.
Cheers,
Stefan
