impossible to display any document

Post by palatulippe »

I used PDF-XChange Viewer since two years and I like it.

Two weeks ago, I had no display of my documents. I uninstalled and reinstalled the software. The set up ends normally. The software is on the hard disk but I cannot open any PDF file.

Can you run the software? How are you trying to open PDF files?

If you can run PDF-XChange Viewer, then go to Preferences, File Associations, and make it the default viewer, also check "Display PDF browser" if you wish.

No I can't!!!

The PDF-XChange Viewer is my default viewer but I can't open the software and when I try to open a PDF file, I only hear a song "Bong". I have to select "open the file with" and choose Adobe.

Hi palatulippe,

Please state your operating system, 32/64 bit, have you tried installing the latest release for the website, and whether you installed using the exe or the msi.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi palatulippe,

I get it, Brothersoft has quite old versions and you installed one of 2 pieces, the SE.exe is the shell extensions only, which is why you can't view PDF's

Uninstall all of that from the control panel and reboot.

Then goto our website and download the latest Viewer Release here: http://www.docu-track.com/downloads/users/

That should get you going.

Regards,
Chris

I Uninstalled all of that from the control panel and reboot.

I downloaded the latest Viewer Release there: https://www.pdf-xchange.com/downloads/users/

I used PDF-XChange Viewer v.2.042.3

But the bug is still there.

I can't open the software and when I try to open a PDF file, I only hear a song "Bong". I have to select "open the file with" and choose Adobe.

palatulippe,

Have you done what Bhikkhu suggested going in the Viewer to Edit->Preferences->File Associations and selected make it default viewer?

As well, we you get the bong sound and it asks you to open the file using a program, is there not an arrow you can open the extended list of files to open the PDF with below the adobe option and choose the PDF-XChange Viewer.

As well you can use the run... command and run "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\PDFXCView.exe" /makeassoc (don't forget the "s)

Hope that helps,
Chris

I can't open the software but I uninstalled PDF-XChange Viewer and delete all files associate with that name. I reboot and without "PDF-XChange Viewer.exe" the default viewer is still PDF-XChange Viewer.

If I double-click on a PDF file, I get the Bong sound and no display. If I use the right button of my mouse, the default viewer is PDF-XChange Viewer and when I take "open with PDF-XChange Viewer", it's the same Bong result.

With the Run command: D:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\PDFXCView.exe get the same Bong.

You wrote: As well you can use the run... command and run "C:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\PDFXCView.exe" /makeassoc (don't forget the "s)

What do you mean about "/makeassoc (don't forget the "s)"

"D:\Program Files\Tracker Software\PDF Viewer\PDFXCView.exe" /makeassoc

The path and the exe are in " and the /makeassoc is after

You can just copy and paste that whole line into the run... command.

Very strange trouble.. :(
Please give details about your OS. What Service Pack?
Also, please check your system for viruses and/or try to disable antivirus/firewall software (just for check).
And please download and try the portable version for PDF-XChange Viewer.

Very strange.
Can you check your system for viruses/spyware/rootkits? You may use this utility (just download and run, it is free and good enough) or even online scan.
Do you have any software for parental control, etc?

1. Please send me your file, named as PDFXCview.exe, we will check it.
2. For advanced check, replace this file with the file from the attachment (contains old PDFXCview.exe v2.042.2) and try to launch it. Create backup of the original *.exe file before you replace it though.

Thanks.

"The extension exe is not allowed."
