Cannot Copy Text Box From Portrait to Landscape w/o Rotation

Hi Support,

Using the dummy document attached, I would like to copy the text box from the portrait page (page 1) to the landscape page (page 2). However, the text box gets incorrectly rotated. The reverse is also true.

There doesn't seem to be a way to rotate mark-up items anyway so I wonder if this might be a bug. Also, I've tried to workaround it by rotating pages first etc. but haven't found a combination that works. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the response but interestingly, your demo document does not demonstrate the same problem as one I have now correctly uploaded.

I wonder what the difference is?

Thanks for your suggestion but your document does not appear to show the effect I want. Your document shows the text box rotated but that is the problem I am reporting. Maybe the title is a little cryptic, by w/o I mean without.

I want to be able copy whole mark-up entities and NOT rotate them when going from portrait to landscape page in the test document I uploaded. This is particularly important for shaped entities like call outs and polygons as the arrows appear in completely the wrong place.

However, this is confused by the fact that your uploaded document does not behave the same as mine in the sense that it does not suffer from the same problem.

So at the moment, I am still thinking it is a bug and am awaiting response from support.

The reason for the problem that you are experiencing is because you have rotated a portrait created page to be viewed landscape and not inserted a landscape blank page. The PDF format uses a coordinate matrix and is maintained based on the pages orientation as it is created.

So the solution is simple, If you'd like to include a landscape page within a portrait document. Use the insert empty page command under Document and select landscape as the orientation at creation time. And the annotation for your page one will paste correctly onto it.

Give it a try and you'll see it behaves the way you wish it to. Not a bug.

For your information, my Mixed Page Orienation.pdf was produced by printing first a portrait page, then a landscape page to PDF Factory, which can collate multiple print jobs in one PDF.

No that's not quite correct. I created the dummy document from Microsoft Word where page 1 is portrait and page 2 is landscape and just printed to PDF using PDF Creator. I am trying to simulate the case where I recieve the document from someone else for me to mark-up and I have no control over how it is created, a very common occurrence I would argue. As you can imagine, manipulating the document pages in anyway is not an option, the author would not be happy!

Anyway, it seems Vasyl recognises that something is up and needs investigation is that correct?

Ok, great I didn't know that was the case, using Word and all, glad Vasyl has the insight as he is our lead viewer developer I am not surprised,

I had recreated the behaviour using the method I described, rotation.

Given that you may not have control over how the original pdf is created, printing it through print driver 167 or newer would I expect correct this. I did this with your sample file and it seems to have corrected it. Note that although I have 'reprinted' your version using our driver 167 the document properties still report the original PDF-Xchnage Viewer as the source application.

I'm keen to hear what you get.

Thanks for the response although I'm not sure what you're referring to when you mean print driver 167. Is that only relevant for XChange only? We've bought XChange Viewer Pro which, I understand, doesn't have the ability to create PDF's. I do that with PDFCreator.

Hi Kier,

Paul and I realized that you must've used the create PDF from rtf you created in Word in the viewer, as we were under the impression that you used the office addin to convert. Paul was successful usin gthe print driver version 167 to correct the problem and will be in touch shortly with the test results from Viewer 42.4.

Just to clarify, I created a standard document in Word 2003 and printed to PDF via PDF Creator 0.9.8. No Add-Ins or anything like that as far as I'm aware.

sorry - I refered to the print driver and this is the Viewer Forum. My bad.

I have created an RTF document with 1 portrait and one landscape blank page, see attchment. When I create a PDF using the Viewer File --> New DOcument --> From Rich text Format (RTF) file... I find I can copy/paste text boxes with the correct orientation using build 42.4.

You said you used PDF-Creator to make that PDF, perhaps that's where the issues lies?
