I open online a pdf document. Than I will open it with another pdf reader.
Direct click on the icon in the status bar will every times open in pdfXChangeViewer
(not in the application witch the icon show)
Only when I switch the application in the pull down menu I can open it in the other application.
I think if you have just one alternate viewer, clicking on the icon will open that alternate viewer. With more than one, you need to use the drop-down and choose which one.
For me, I have the one alternate, Adobe Reader.. and when I click on the adobe icon, it loads their reader. But I can see from your pics, you have two alternates.. so your setup is behaving differently.

Although the Launch toolbar remembers the last used option to open the current PDF in Adobe Reader, when I click it, the file opens in PDF-XChange Viewer unless I use the drop list every time.
