Cannot Create Stamp From Clipboard Image

Hi All,

In the 'Stamps Palette' window, I want to create a stamp from a clipboard image (.png) but for some reason the 'From Clipboard' button is greyed out.

I can't imagine why the button would be disabled for any other reason than there is no valid image on the clipboard. However, I verified that I indeed have the correct image on the clipboard by pasting into IrfanView immediately after trying the 'From Clipboard' button. 'From Image...' and 'From PDF...' buttons are not greyed out.

Any ideas folks?

Hi Kier,

The Clipboard should contain the actual image data for the "From Clipboard" button to work. If you have copied the .png file containing the image data to the clipboard then this is not a "valid image" for this function. If you have the .png file on your computer you can use the "From Image" command as .png files are supported. I am not aware how IrfanView handles image files stored in the clipboard but our viewer is definitely looking for the content rather than the file holding it.

Valid sources for the "Clipboard" are the Print Screen on your keyboard or the Snapshot tool in our viewer.

The button is greyed out because you cannot add custom stamps to the standard stamps palette.

First, you have to add a custom stamp palette.

Thanks the replies. The cause seems to be outside of PDF-Viewer and quite subtle.

That's useful information. Should be put in the manual don't you think?


Anyway, here's how I fell into a Microsoft trap:

(1) Go to the following URL (I used IE7):

(2) Underneath any icon, click the right most button. This apparently should copy the image to the clipboard.

(3) Open Stamps Palette, you will see that 'From Clipboard' is not enabled.

(4) Open a blank Office document, Word for example, and paste. This works as expected.

(5) Copy the same image in (4) to clipboard.

(6) Open Stamps Palette as per (3), 'From Clipboard' is now enabled.

So it seems that copying an image from the above URL in IE7 copies it to a special clipboard for Office documents only. How typical of Microsoft to make this distinction!

Another way - just press Ctrl+V on the page - image from clipboard will be automatically added as a stamp
