Copy/Paste Problem with Simplified Chinese Characters

Post by unihan »

Hello,

I am having trouble copying and pasting Chinese characters from the content of PDF's from Chinesepod.com.

I can open and view the file with no problem. The Chinese characters display perfectly. But when I copy the characters, what is in the clipboard is gibberish. However, the copying is perfect from other PDF viewers.

Example:

Copied/Pasted with Adobe Reader: 娘娘
Copied/Pasted with SumatraPDF: 娘娘
Copied/Pasted with PDF XChange Viewer:

I have tested on XP and Windows 7, on computers that have Chinese fonts installed from Microsoft East Asian Language Support.

Is there some setting I am not configuring properly? Please advise.

Thank you very much.

Hello unihan,

The text is not copied properly because there is no information about the encoding used in this PDF (so we can not map the glyph indexes to character codes)

Regards,
Stefan
