Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Hi Support,
I have been having some trouble creating pdfs out of AutoCad - we are using Version 2 of PDF- Xchange Build 42.3 and AutoCad 2007. The problem only affects some files - generally the software works well. When the pdf is previewed it looks fine, but the result is missing text. If I send you the file (AutoCad), would you be able to take a look at it for me?

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Do you have problem with creation, printing or viewing of the PDF files?
If the problem is with creation - can you say which tool do you use to create files?
And can you provide us with the file which does not display (or print) well?
All files must be archived/wrapped in a zip/Rar/7z archive or they will be removed automatically from your post.
Thanks

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Hi Victor,
Thanks for getting back to me. We are using PDF-Exchange Pro V4 - purchased 17/8/2009
I've included a copy of the AutoCad file and a copy of the malformed pdf - the problem seems to be related to rendering narrow viewports in paperspace. I have been able to create properly formed pdfs by using another application, so it is not critical - but it would be good if we could solve the problem using PDF Exchange.
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Which build of the driver are you using? And can you tell us the settings used during printing?
Also, please read the following topics and try the workarounds described there:
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... =10&t=3186
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... =10&t=2649
You can see that they are very old, so using search would have shown them for sure
HTH
PS. And yes, we have another forum for driver.

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Hi Victor - thanks for the info. Tried the following remedy and it didn't work -
"this is a known bug in AutoCAD (not PDF-XChange) and has been discussed here on numerous occassions in the past - you need to set margins in the PDF-XChange printer preferences to compensate for AutoDesks bug in AutoCAD - set a margin of 0.125 mm and all should be well. "

Ok - but can you please ensure you ahve the very latest release and provide the following info previously requested by Victor ... :
Which build of the driver are you using? And can you tell us the settings used during printing?
also - please note this post will be moved to the correct formum as this is a driver - not Viewer issue.

Hi Support,
We are using Version 4 build 166 (surely you keep a record of this info - we only just recently purchsed the software from you).
Anyway - we have a workaround that will do for the time being. It does seem strange that you say it is an AutoCad problem - both PDF Factory Pro and Acrobat 9 Pro render the files without error.
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
How would you expect us to keep a record of the downloads of every one of the several million users we have?
We record the date you purchased - we have no idea on what date you last downloaded a new build as there is no requirement to log in to achieve this !
Please also provide the requested information on the settings used if you wish us to follow up your report and a file generated by the driver that has not be modified/resaved by the Viewer (as the file you have supplied has) - finally an example of a correctly formed PDF from on eof the other products you mention would also be most useful.
Thanks.

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Hi John from Tracker Support,
The Product ID is ID 128-9626663-8634 Version 4 build 166 - I have installed updates for the viewer and the shell extensions version 2.0.42.4 - there appear to be no more updates through Live Update that i can apply
I have attached another archive with examples of pdfs created using the default A3 settings in PDF Xchange - also the result with margin set at .125 - and a pdf rendered out of PDF Factory Pro using their default A3 settings.
I'm not sure how I can give you a complete list of the settings used when printing using PDF Xchange - is there a log file created that I can send you?
- if there is other info you require, please tell me how to generate it for you.
Since you have already identified the fault as being a well-known issue that has been discussed numerous times on this forum - and you say that it is a bug with AutoCad and therefore out of your control - I'm not sure why you keep asking for more information regarding settings. You seem to know about the problem already - and you have already said it's not the fault of your software.
I'm not trying to be argumentative - we like your software and are using it rather than Acrobat - as mentioned, we have a workaround where, for these types of files we use PDFactory Pro, which seems to work.
Cheers,
Paul

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Hi paul,
for sure I appreciate you are not being difficult in anyway and if we can identify a problem and reproduce - rest assured - we will resolve it
But to date - this has always proven to be a s a result of AutoCAD print method issues - however - we are happy to look again.
The best way to send us your settings is to setup your settings using the control panel/printers list/printer preferences (not properties) and setting as you would - and then saving these to a 'Profile" (see the Profiles option on the Printer preferences) - and exporting this profile to a file and sending to us - or posting here as a zip file.
or follow the instructions detailed here to create a tmp file - :
https://forum.pdf-xchange.com/ ... f=29&t=800
If making the tmp file - please zip and email the file to john@tracker-software.com as these can be quite large.
If you would not mind doing both - even better.
Many thanks !

Re: Trouble with malformed pdfs out of AutoCad
Hi there,
I am new to this forum, but I have some experience with this problem. I have used a the Cadzation Acroplot Pro PDF software, which uses Tracker's PDF-XChange driver. Apparently it is an issue with TrueType fonts but not AutoCAD shape fonts. It is definitely an AutoCAD generated problem. The solution that has worked for me, as outlined by Cadzation, is to set TrueType fonts to print as graphics. See the attached image of the AutoCAD "Plotter Configuration Editor" dialog. In doing this, I have not noticed a compromise in text quality or readability, but the 1/8" offset problem has vanished. And I don't have to waste space by compensating for the 1/8" problem by shrinking my title blocks to get my text to print.
I hope this helps.
