Excahnge viewer free search problem

I am using version 2 build 42.6 of the free version and searched the manual for the PDF x-change for the word "snapshot" (without the quotes). The first occurence was in the table of contents and pressing F3 did nothing even though there were many other occurrences of the word. Case-sensitive was disabled as was whole words.

Why is the find function not working?

I repeated my earlier speed tests (Feb 2009) Finding a common word using the latest versions of PDF-XChange, and other viewers:

• PDF-XChange found 7100 words in 2:05 (3:05 in the previous test)
• Foxit Reader 3.1.2.1013 found 7100 words in 6:15 (6:05 in the previous test)
• Adobe Reader 9.2 found 7100 words in 22:15 (18:00 in the previous test on ver 9)
• Adobe Reader 7.08 found 7100 words in 29:00

Some test results from other users might be helpful. My test file was exceptionally large (11,800 pages).

When searching for a word in a folder full of PDF files, Foxit Reader is almost as fast as PDF-XChange, but Adobe Reader still lags far behind, though not as badly as in the single large file test. The number of occurrences found varied in this test. Foxit is finding one more occurence than PDF-XChange in each test, and Adobe Reader is finding 116 more occurrences than Foxit. I used the basic search option so it should not be searching bookmarks or comments.

Searching for "Buddhism" in folder of 78 documents
PDF-XChange found 2369 entries in 55 documents in 0:55
Foxit Reader found 2370 entries in 55 documents in 1:05
Adobe Reader 9.2 found 2386 entries in 59 documents in 4:35

Searching for "Buddhism" in 10 folders of 333 documents
PDF-XChange found 2489 entries in 74 documents in 1:37
Foxit Reader found 2490 entries in 77 documents in 2:00
Adobe Reader 9.2 found 2506 entries in 79 documents in 9:10

Great tests and results Bhikkhu,
The question now is which is the entry Foxit finds more than us and where does Adobe drag those 116 results more from.

I am curious...!

Seems that all three found 120 results in the other 9 folders... so the difference is in the first one with the 78 documents.
How big would an archive with all those files be and would you like to share those files with us so we could test?

Reason for this: Acrobat searches in document's info(keywords, subject, title, etc.), but in the current version we cannot search in document's info. This feature will be added into the next build.

While the overhead is inevitably bigger with having more places to check, and getting more results it's lovely to see we are still Number one
