Can we please allow the text highlighter to allow us to select a block of text that falls between two pages as one selection?

eg

Page 1 text
------ page separation----
Page 2 text

selection -
Page 1
Page 2

Also how about been able to use the ctrl key whilst selecting to make one selection from several blocks of text?

eg

Text 2
Text 3
Text 4

It is impossible because comment-object cannot be spit between two different pages(defined in Adobe's PDF Reference).

The feature for make one selection with several blocks will be added into the next version of our application.

could it not be worked around ie have xchange viewer make two comment objects, however, only have the comment text in the first ?

or could it be worked about with a tag or something that's interpreted by xchange viewer

Comments that are created in PDF-XChange Viewer need to display correctly also in Adobe Reader as well as Foxit Reader and others. It would seriously limit the value of this program if it started using customized comment types that were not compatible with other viewers.

If you add a tag for example [[continued]] at the beginning of the second comment .

in adobe reader it would make perfect sense still to the reader that it was a continuation from the last.

Hey Andi,

thanks for the comments but still there is the PDF Specification for a reason, as if we (and everyone else) start adding stuff it will be a mayhem, and PDF is supposed to be a Portable format!

And as Vasyl said already there would be an option to make one selection with several blocks/objects in it in future builds.

I still don't understand why that wouldn't work between pages ,

a. if your going allow single highlight from multiple objects in future versions
b. "copy highlighted text to comment" feature must generate a new comment object from highlighted text?

surely at the moment xchange works by copying the highlighted text and makes a comment object from it?

why cant it take the text from two highlighted areas, concatenate and make a single comment from it?

this should'nt affect any pdf standard should it?

For example: if selection(with several blocks) located on one page - then one highlight-comment will be added on this page only.
If the selection is located on two and more pages - then a new highlight-comment will be added to each selected page separately.

So, if you select text on 5 pages and highlight selection then viewer will create 5 new highlight-comments.

Cant believe Adobe did think beyond, maybe in future standards they will cover this

Note however that Adobe are no longer the PDF format Standard's decision maker ...

This now rest with the International Standards body - Adobe conceded this last year ...

So whilst they no longer now have the ability to dictate the standard - which in many ways makes it less prone to Adobe's proprietorial desires - it also I suspect will mean the standard matures less quickly as it navigates the standards bodies commitees for approval.

The one good thing about a dictatorship is that decisions are made quickly - the bad thing is - we may not like those decisions
