Advice on search facilities.

Post by TheFalcon »

Hi there,

firstly my compliments on a fine utility program with a bundle of useful extra features. Like other posts I have read, I too used (now past tense) Foxit but will be using your program in future. 8)

I have a question relating to the search feature, or more correctly the 'search in files' feature. I notice that if I use the browse facility via the 'Where do you want to search?' dropdown and navigate to the target directory the search will work as expected and find the specified text in each of the PDFs in that directory. This does not work however if I search from the root of that drive or from a directory above the mentioned target in the directory structure. I have checked the 'search in subfolders' option via the options button. Is this a limitation of the free version, a bug or am I just missing an option setting somewhere? Can you advise? :?

Hi Bhikkhu,

thanks for the response. I tried installing on another pc which has xp on it. Same result so now I'm confused. :? There has to be something wrong somewhere as the search results change with the directory. Consider the following (Note: Search subdirectories option is selected):
  1. I do search in a directory for the text phrase "James Young".
  2. I get a return of two PDFs. One with a single line referenced and another with two lines referenced. All is good.
  3. I clear the search. Then using the same search string I set the target directory for searching to the directory directly above the one I've just used.
  4. I get a match in another directory under this new current directory, but I do not see the expected results from that previous deeper directory.
  5. I move the search (same string) to the root directory of the drive. I get nothing, no match at all.
These are the results I get on both XP and Windows 7.

:D :D :D :D :D

Hi, TheFalcon

Unfortunately we cannot reproduce this problem.
Does it happen with all directories or just with specific ones?
Probably some your directories are linking real directories or volumes. Please check and advise.

Cheers.
