How to merge pages

Post by brian83 »

Hello

is it possible to merge several small pages so that they will appear as one page when printing?

I was cropping some pages of a document. Now I wanted to put some of the pages together so that they are printed as only one page, but I could not find a function to do this.

Can somebody help me?

Hi brian83,

Been doing some brainstorming and asking around and I just don't think it's possible, sorry.
Maybe some other ideas will surface.

So what about the feature 'pages transitions'?
I actually don't really know what this is for, because the feature is not listed in the document menu anymore. It was listed in the free version before I bought the Pro version!? But it said it's only usable with pro version.

And in the Users Manual there is only the hit:
"N.B. This function was not available at the time of writing of this documentation revision."

Could this feature be useful in my case?
How can I use it?

page transitions are used for fancy presentations when one page somehow fades away and is replaced by the next page ... IMHO useless feature

Maybe you could use "print multiple pages per sheet" where you can print 2/3/4... horizontal/vertical so if you know how you want the final page to look like you could order them in such a way that one of the "multiple pages per sheet" combination would result in a desirable combined page

Or do you need to overlay them? Then you would probably need to use Acrobat and put pages on different layers

Mmmh that would be a solution if the pages I cropped had the same size like maybe half of a page.
But I wanted to put several different text pieces together which have different sizes.

I'm quite sad that this doesn't work since it was the only reason for purchasing the program. Without such a feature I could have lived with the water marks in the free version. =(

I still have a hard time to imagine how exactly you want different sizes of pages to be printed together and how would the program supposed to know where you want them to appear.

Care to explain what you are actually trying to achieve?

Another suggestion would be, instead of cropping pages, you could overlay what you dont want to see in the final result with rectangles of the same background color as your paper (you could set them default so this would be very fast and easy to do). Then printing multiple pages would work fine as the pages would have the same sizes and only visible what you didn't overlay with rectangles.

Hello quant
Ok I'll try to explain it more precisely.
E.g. there are three pages I've cropped, first is 8,52cm, second 7,20cm and the third is 6,12cm. They all would fit in one page. (size 29,7cm*20cm)
As you've suggested I could print them as three pages in one. The problem is that I would have to print each page separately because there are also bigger pages which would not fit together with another page.
By the way: is "print multiple pages per sheet" a feature of the software or the printer? Since my printer says I can only print 1, 2 or 4 pages per sheet. And if I choose 4, the pages are ordered in a square and not one under another.

The other way you suggested to overlay several pages would work, too. But I don't really want to by more software.

Thanks for your help.

I think it's a feature of the program that you can print 3,5,... etc horizontal/vertical pages.
I have no problem cropping pages and printing them 3 on the same page one after another.

If the 3 pages do not fit in their 100% scale, the program would automaticaly scale them down to fit, ie each page would get 1/3rd of the single page space and then one that is bigger than that would be scaled down.

Oh yes =)
Now you said it, I found how to use the feature of the software under "page scaling" -> "scaling type".
Before I was looking at "Properties" of the printer.

This is actually still not the perfect way. But I think I can deal with it now.

Thanks.
