Restore session

Post by philipw2 »

I use PDF-Xchange view like I use my physical desktop: it is full of half read open documents. However I have begun to notice a problem.

Sometimes when I close and save some of these documents--cleaning up--the already closed documents reappear when I reopen PDF-Xchange Viewer (I do have session restore option on). Not only do they reappear, but they reappear as the unread unsaved version, directly from the temp directory that I originally downloaded them from, rather than the marked up and properly filed, and named version that I saved right before closing it. I never pin documents so that isn't the explanation.

To be concrete. I downloaded R1795.pdf and opened it. I marked it up and saved in in a folder under c:\background\climate change\energy RnD\DOE spending.pdf. The I closed the document, though not PDF-Change Viewer. Later when I close PDF Xchnge viewer and reopen it, the unmarked file R1795.pdf is there though not the marked up DOE spending.pdf. This happens much of the time with many of my files.

How can I ensure that only those files that I had open are restored when I reopen the program? How can I ensure that they restore the most recent version of the PDFs?

Thoughts. Thanks.

Hi philipw2,

has this question been answered elsewhere? I have a recollection of this elsewhere but cannot find evidence of it. If this was never addressed please indicate this so I can see that someone does take a proper look.

The safest way is not to open PDF files directly from internet links. Right-click and download the linked content, save the PDF file in My Documents or wherever, then open the file from your hard drive. Otherwise, you're opening files that are in your browser's temporary downloads folder.
