PDF-XChange Viewer hijacking Firefox
This is so annoying that if I can't fix it, soon I am going to abandon using the PDF-XChange Viewer and will uninstall it from my system.
I use Firefox 3.0.12 on Windows 7. All my Adobe Acrobat options are set to using Adobe Acrobat 9.0 which I have installed yet somehow all pdf documents open up in PDF-XChange Viewer inside Firefox.
I prefer PDF-XChange Viewer exclusively for annotating the pdf documents and not for general reading of pdf documents.
Is there a way I can make PDF-XChange Viewer to shut up, mind its own business and not interfere with Firefox?
Thanks!
Cheers; 'best,

And why should anyone care? How much did you pay for PDF-XChange?shankarswamy wrote:This is so annoying that if I can't fix it, soon I am going to abandon using the PDF-XChange Viewer and will uninstall it from my system.
I'm not speaking for Tracker software here, but why not ask politely if you want help from Tracker support? Even if the fault does lie with PDF-XChange, your attitude is rude. If the fault lies with Firefox, then you're way out of line.shankarswamy wrote:Is there a way I can make PDF-XChange Viewer to shut up, mind its own business and not interfere with Firefox?
If you use Opera, you will have no such problem. I can open PDF files in any of three plugins — Adobe Reader, PDF-XChange, or Foxit Reader.
I also didn't have any luck getting any plugin to work with Firefox. The Firefox properties are set to use the PDF-XChange plugin, but PDF files open in the Adobe Reader plugin. If I was a Firefox user I would be asking on the Firefox forums why this is happening.

It's pretty simple, really. Just disable the PDF-XChange plugin in FF. Tools - Add ons - Plugins. Or, as Bhikkhu says above, go to Tools - Options - Applications, and adjust the options for the pdf association.shankarswamy wrote: Is there a way I can make PDF-XChange Viewer to shut up, mind its own business and not interfere with Firefox?

Hi, shankarswamy.
You may use second method for deactivate of our FF-plugin:
1. Run our standalone app.
2. Got to Menu/Edit/Preferences/File Associations and uncheck 'Display in Browsers' and press 'OK'.
3. Close the standalone app. and check your FF.

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer hijacking Firefox
1. I am a paid customer.
2. I have confirmed that it is not a Firefox association or at least not one that is apparent to me. I have checked the usual setttings in Firefox (application associations etc).
3. Not using Firefox is not an option for me.
4. I did try email and when that did not get a response in reasonable time, I posted here and my question was targeted towards the tracker team. Not users per say, though I do appreciate other help, yours included.
Cheers; 'best,

This method worked. I am on
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.12) Gecko/2009070611 Firefox/3.0.12 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729), Windows 7, 64 bits and the other suggested methods did not work. When that happens it almost feels like it is a deliberate action on the software to prevent you from using a competing product - though from your response it appears like that was never the intent.
If there really is a bug here, you might consider fixing it - hope the details I have provided help towards that.
Thanks!

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer hijacking Firefox
On a side note,
Firefox seems a bit buggy when it comes to plugin management, as I have had, in the past couple days, at least 3 users that complain the opposite, that the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin won't disable in the new Firefox 3.6 release and PDF-XChange Viewer plugin isn't accessible unless the Acrobat Reader is completely uninstalled. Which I have addressed with Mozilla and am awaiting a response.

Re: PDF-XChange Viewer hijacking Firefox
I have the opposite problem. In FF3.6, now Acrobat is taking over. How do I get PDF X-Change to once again be my default pdf plugin?

Ha! I answer my own question! To remove Firefox Acrobat Plugin:
Delete the file named nppdf32.dll from your Mozilla Firefox plugins folder. You may have to enable showing hidden files to do this.
Solved! Vicious Acrobat. Bad!
