Pin recents list?

Post by Shaun »

:? How do I pin the entire Recents List to the left side of the window? I frequently access a number of pinned files in that list and it's a real pain to have to constantly click on the pull down next to the Open button. If it is not currently possible, I'd like to request that feature.
Thanks,
-Shaun

There are many ways to customise the interface. I have a toolbar button to show the recent files list:

Bhikkulu, thanks for the intersting page you linked to about PDFXchange. I was interested in this post because I'd like to pin the Recent Files list to a toolbar, if not directly in the File menu (instead of having to scroll down like you do now).

How exactly can I make a link to it on a custom toolbar? I made a custom toolbar, but didn't see any way to get the Recent Files list on it. When I went into the customize option window for the toolbars, I didn't see Recent Files on the list of options that I could drag and drop onto my toolbar.

With the Customize Dialogue open, you can drag and drop items from the menu onto your customized toolbar.

If you mess up, there is an option on the Customize dialogue to reset the selected toolbar (or the menu) to its default, or to reset all.

From the Edit menu, you can export all of your current settings to back up your customisations (strongly recommended).

OK, I can get the customize dialog. I click on the Commands tab on the top, and along the left, I have selected "File"--which is the menu where the Recent files sub-menu resides. Where do you see the "recent files" in the options? I can't even find it to move it onto my custom toolbar.

OK thanks Bhikku. I did some tweaking of the UI and I exported my file. Man they think of everything. I can't believe this level of customization in a PDF viewer.

The "recent files" option is on the menu. Just drag it from the menu to the toolbar.

OK Bhikku. Not trying to be an idiot here, but its still not working. Lookie here:

That is the ONLY place I can find the Recent Files command. You want me to drag it from there, onto a custom toolbar? Whether I do this with a right- or left-click, it never moves onto the toolbar--regardless if the toolbar is floating like it is in the graphic, or fixed above the document view.

Got any suggestions?

From your screen shot you don't seem to have the customise dialogue open.

OK, I opened up the Customize dialog, but in the File menu, I don't see any "recent files" option to move onto a toolbar:

In your screen shot you have not opened the file menu. (not the file menu commands on the customise dialogue)

In this screen shot, I am dragging the item from the toolbar back to the file menu.

Got it. BOTH the File menu and the Customize dialog need to be open, then it works. Earlier I moved items from the Customize dialog itself so I was thinking it was something similar here. Thanks again.

Thanks to Bhikkhu for his assistance and adding a button helps a little; however, what I want is the Recents List always displayed in a side panel so I can more quickly access the documents. Any ideas?
Thanks again,

I think the best you can do is drag the Recent Files list off of the File menu, as a separate menu, and dock the menu toolbar at the side of the window. Open the Recent Files menu to show the list.
