Exaggerated Lines when Printing

Post by js2009pdfx »

Hi!

I came accross a strange behaviour when printing PDF documents from the PDF XChange Viewer 2.0 (Build 47.0). Lines are printed siginificantly broader using the PDF XChange Viewer when compared to a hardcopy made with the Acrobat Reader 9.3.1.

I would have liked to include examples, but unfortunately the website doesn't let me (I tried two PNG documents and a PDF document containng both PNG files). So let me describe what is in the pictures. The examples show the URLs each (a link to a website and an e-mail address), which are underlined. In the print-out from the Acrobat Reader, the line is the ordinary typical line, while the PDF XChange Viewer created a line having a thickness of approximately half the height of the characters, masking have of the letters.

I have seen the same effect when printing maps provided as PDF documents. Lines in the maps are printed very broadly.

By the way, the display on screen looks perfect. Furthermore, the documents are printed directly by using the same printer, the same driver and the same system related parameters. In other words, I did not change anything in between.

Since I am using the editing functionality of the XChange Viewer quite often and since I have been playing with line thicknesses for borders, lines and so on, my hunch is that the line thicknesses might be taken from adding comments when printing. But that is only a first hunch.

Thanks a lot and bye,
Jürgen

Hi!

First of all, thanks for the help concerning the attachments.

The printer is a Lexmark C530dn.

Best regards,
Jürgen

Something similar with a calendar: just 3x4 months with 1pt. line between the months and the line printed at about 10pt.
I no longer have the file as I'd printed a couple of copies then deleted it.

Have noticed this once or twice in the last few months.

Version 44 - 47; printer Kyocera FS-1900.

Hi Jürgen,

Can you please attach the original file (or if sensitive send it to support@pdf-xchange.com) so we can run some test with it.

Also if you can provide us with a link for the drivers you are using that would be really helpful - I did a quick search but was not able to find any :(

Regards,
Stefan

p.s. Giraffe if you could find this file (or any other causing this), please ether attach to this topic or send to support@ and we will check your printer's behaviour as well.

Hi again Jürgen,

We received your files, and have looked at them.
This turns out to be a problem with printing through GDI and some printer drivers.
Please try to update yours to see if this will help.

It prints fine in Adobe as they are using different algorithms when printing to some printers.

We do not have a perfect solution for the moment but are working on it.
Please try the "Print as Image" option and see if this is acceptable as a temporary solution for now.

Regards,
Stefan

is this the same problem as rectangular boxes coming up sometimes instead of spaces?

Thanks again.

Updating the printer drivers did not help, but printing as a picture works quite well.

So, thanks again for your help.

Best regards,
Jürgen

These boxes might be due to some missing/incorrectly interpreted content by your printer fonts. If you see it fine on your screen it should print fine as well - but if you see the boxes - then that's certainly a fonts problem.

Again please see if printing as an image help.

Kind Regards,
Stefan
