Typewriter Text Formatting options are greyed out

Hello all

How do I change the font of the Typewriter tool? All the Text Formatting options are greyed out, both in the toolbar and when I right-click.
I can change fonts in a text box, but not the Typewriter Tool.

YES, I read the help file, and those instructions do not work.

Are you typing in a PDF form? Is the PDF secured to prevent changes? Check the document properties.

Yes, it is a form, I was unknowingly typing into fields set up by the document creator.
