I updated PDF-Xchange last week (version 2.0 build 50.0). Now frequently I have been getting the following warning when saving files:
"The Document [name here] is PDF/A compliant.
The save operation may add unsupported content - making the destination no longer
PDF/A compliant.
Do you want to save this document?"
What does that mean?
I thought that all the markings and comments that PDF-Xchange did could be read by Adobe and other PDF readers. Not that I share that much but I'd like to retain the ability?
Does this mean that those documents are no longer portable?
PDF/A compliant

Re: PDF/A compliant
Hi,
This mesage is telling you that you have opened a PDF/A compliant document - by resaving it - if you may have added 'NON' PDF/A compliant content - and then it may no longer meet the standard, thats all - its still a perfectly valid PDF.
You are not losing the ability to share or read those documents in other readers - PDF-XChange is 100% PDF standard compliant - its just this specific PDF format subset (PDF/A) which is potentially compromised - nothing to do with the actual PDF not being PDF/Adobe Compliant/Compatible.
Very quickly - PDF/A is a PDF format subset designed to ensure that compliant files are devoid of all content that may make them difficult to view by the most basic of PDF Readers - so they should contain within them for all example - all fonts (which can make files very big by the way if this is done), no Video, sound, 3D images etc etc - they are very very basic PDF's in terms of visual content - but must embed within them - everything required to allow any viewer/reader in the future that is PDF/A compliant to display that file - without any external references/resources (e.g. fonts, video/sound player, etc etc)
You can read more about PDF/A here :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/A
So - in closing - if you are not worried about being/mantaining PDF/A compliant - then dont worry - your file is still fully PDF standard compliant and can be viewed in any other PDF compliant viewer such as Adobe's etc ... but it will not meet the archive standard if you have added non PDF/A content - thats the only possible consequence.

Re: PDF/A compliant
Thanks. A useful explanation. Now if I could only turn the stupid warning off. I am not interested in archiving for anything other than my own work.

Hi,
We will add an option to allow you to switch of such warnings in an upcoming release - hopefully the next due in a week or so if possible.
