Unicode not FULLY supported

Post by xCurt »

PDF XChange Viewer Pro 2.0 (build 50.0)

The special Danish characters æ, ø, å, will show properly, when normal or fat. But when in italic, æ, ø, å, XChange Viewer will always replace them with a square bracket.

I need to point out that my Adobe Reader, Infix Pro, and Nitro Pro OCR, all will display these characters correctly.

I am not able to reproduce this. Tracker Support will need a test PDF file and a description of how you're producing this PDF file. Are you talking about Unicode support for comments on PDF files, or Word document text converted to PDF using PDF-XChange printer drivers?

This is the Viewer forum, so questions about the latter don't belong here, but in the Printer Driver forum
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

hmm... thanks. I haven't thought of such a possibility.

99.9% of my PDF files comes from newspaper articles ("Print to PDF") and will never include italics, but the files in mention seems to all be Word 2003 documents (without any comments, bookmarks or foot-notes) converted into PDF. These conversions have been done with several different programs, except with a Tracker program! Are you saying this will make it a printer driver question instead of a viewer issue? But why is Tracker's viewer the only one that cannot display the characters properly, when the tree editors' viewers will - with the same documents?

Hi xCurt

I think Bhikkhu was simply trying to ascertain the correct forum based on the source of the document. Given that the files are sourced from 3rd party applications and it is indeed the Viewer's representation of these files then the original observation is relevant. We will need to see the particular PDF document that is not displaying properly in our Viewer. Please put the file in an archive .zip or other (such as RAR or 7z) when posting or it will be removed from the post by the system.

BTW - given that this is about our Viewer displaying the file this is the right forum to post this in.

regards

After an hour's testing I am confused that any viewer at all will display these characters properly! My point being that copy&paste operations into various editors have shown the problem to be the "old" initial conversions; ALL the "old" italic æ, ø, and å characters came out wrong!

Testing with freshly made Word2Pdf documents all gave proper results.

One can of course still wonder why some viewers will show the miscoded letters the right way, and why yours won't, but I cannot see any reason to pursue the problem, when I now know that the original conversion had errors. Sorry for have taken your time!

I think that is no longer the case — my PDF file attachment was not removed by your forum code.

:)

xCurt the situation with such PDF files is a bit more complex - there is information used for visualizing the character, and then there is other data that is needed for being able to copy it as plain text - seems like your file is missing the latter, but we should still be able to visualize it as other viewers can, so please do upload one such sample so we could have a look at it.

Best,
Stefan

-oh, too late. We found the original Word documents, and converted all over, with no errors. PDF-XChange Viewer Pro is now displaying the proper characters, also in italic. The files with errors were of course deleted.

:)
Glad to hear that, and then we will write that problem to that PDF creator and not our Viewer :P

I hope you used our Lite printing driver when you created the new files now, which is on special offer for Viewer Pro licensed users:

-thanks for the link which made me register. I wonder why on earth the the pro viewer has no link to registering? I would never have registered, because I didn't know I even could!

Hi,

we will add this - though to be honest its slightly 'academic' (as far as new business goes) as part of the buying process registers you automatically now :)
If posting files to this forum - you must archive the files to a ZIP, RAR or 7z file or they will not be uploaded - thank you.

Best regards
