How do I get Copy&Paste of "objects" and not just text?

Kudos for the best PDF editing tool, especially given that it is FREE!
I have been using PDF-XChange Viewer for nearly a year now, and it has become a fundamental part of my laptop usage.
The documentation (see Help->Contents) is very good although figuring out exactly how to add my own signature took some playing around... (now, I can fill in the entire PDF form AND even "sign it" and return it via email without ever wasting paper or ink!=)
There is one important feature that I have used on occasion, however I cannot remember how to activate it! There is a "mode" of usage that allows Copy&Paste of objects previously added with the tool (text boxes, graphical objects, stampls, ...). Normally, the behavior I get after I select an object and "Copy" it (Contol-C or rightClick->Copy), I get nothing when I attempt to "Paste" it (Control-V or rightClick->Paste). It is as if the ClipBoard has gone inactive...
The last time when I was using this important capability, I even wrote down how I managed to "toggle" the tool to activate this "mode," but when I tried that approach (see paragraph below) today, it didn't work ;=(
The last time I was using Cut&Paste, I wrote down the "method" that I thought was the magic trick. Basically, I would just add a StickyNote, and then other objects previously added with the tool could be Copied (& Pasted!). It is not working today, so clearly something else is in play... HELP PLEASE!

To copy the object (comment) you must to have it selected, but text inside this object. For first, deselect all - choose hand tool and click outside of page. Now right click on the object you want to copy and select "Copy" from the context menu.

I can successfully select the object, not just the text inside it... (and of course, if I am selecting a purely graphical object, there is no text involved). When I select the object, I can then get the right-click context menu, and I can select Copy. However, when I right click again, the Paste option is grayed out - i.e., not available. So, I am pretty sure that it is not my 'Select' that is the problem.

Two things have occurred to me, as I browse more and more of the Copy&Paste discussions in the forums:

First of all, I am running version 2.0 (Build 42.4) which I installed in September. Maybe I just need a newer version?

Second, just now I went to test a few more theories suggested by the forum discussions, and to my surprise, I am able to Copy&Paste this time in a file that i was previously unable to do so. When I was in that file before, I had two more tabs active, so maybe they were "protected" to some degree? Let me check... Nope. I just closed down the tool, started up with the same order of file access, but Copy&Paste is currently working! (It's beginning to sound like a "phases of the moon" issue now ;=)

Anyway, I might as well pick up a newer version - I assume from all the discussions that V3 is out and stable by now, no?

Thanks for the update... Still, 9 builds since my v2 build 42 might help address my problem. With a new install, is it necessary to uninstall the previous version first?

Hi,

it is advisable to fully uninstall Build 2.042 as this had problems with the Live Update option under the 'Help' menu.

Does anyone have an answer to the original question. I now have this problem. I have been copying and pasting objects all over my mark-ups, until today and the paste simply 'dings' and refuses to work! What might have changed?

after selecting and copying the object do you have a right click paste option available? If there is nothing in the clipboard after the copy operation you might see the behaviors you are mentioning. I find I can copy/paste objects correctly using build 52. (current)

You may need to make sure that you click on a part of the document that is free of other objects or else you might be pasting over the top of what you copied. You can use CTRL+M to see your Comments listed and see if you have repeated an object.

I use the portable version of build 52 (Pdf-Xchange Viewer). In build 51 it was possible to copy/paste with ctrl-c and ctrl-v, paste with right click or with the menu. But now with build 52 "paste" is greyed and not to use. What is wrong?

Please check that the document you are trying to paste to is not security protected, and restricting you from modifying it?
When the restrictions in a secured file do not allow modifications you would neither be able to paste text nor use any of the tools we offer.

Hi Tracker Supp-Stefan

It was not a protected Pdf. In that session, I had 12 pdfs file open - all are not protected. And in all pdf was it not possible to paste a copied object.

I closed the PdfViewer and restarted the pc. After reopen the viewer with all 12 pdf files, it works fine without trouble.

This same thing has happenned to me more than once. Copy paste seems to be disabled in some situations. Copy command is available, but paste produces nothing. Then I close all docs and reopen, and it works fine. I have not been able to recreate or force it to happen, but it has happenned to me 3-4 times. I think I was on build 44 when it happenned.

I just upgraded to .53 yesterday, so all I can say is if it happens to me again, I will return here an post the details. On build .44 it was not a daily occurance, but I expect by end of this month if I haven't posted then the issue is gone. Tks.
