Print Dialog Box

Post by Arnold »

I downloaded and installed 2.0.52 and the small font problem seems to have been addressed. Prior to this version I had used 2 files posted on the forum to increase the menu font size on my laptop. Now that I have installed this version the fonts are big and the Print Dialog Box will not fit on the screen. Registry file patches and screen shot attached.

I believe this may be caused by the previous patches to the registry. I went back to version 51 and the problem disappeared. I tried uninstalling and re-installing version 52 and it did not help. I installed version 52 on an old computer and everything looked okay.

If this is the cause, how do I correct the registry?

Thank you.

1. Press right mouse button on menu bar or on any toolbar
2. Select "Customize..." from context menu
3. Go the "Options" page of Customize dialog and set any font/font size you need.

Hi,

I just wanna tell you that I have the same problem with the Print Dialog Box which gets cut off no matter what screen resolution I choose.
PDF Viewer version is 2.0.52 (it also happened with 2.0.51), and I'm on Windows 7 x64...

Here's a screenshot.

Thanks for that screenshot geffosk

it looks to me that the image is cropped. Would it be possible to send a screen shot of your entire screen please? Also what resolution display are you running?

Hi, Paul.
I just removed the task bar, nothing else, it's as you see it.
My resolution is 800x600, but the result is the same regardless of that...
Here's the full screen, anyway.

Hi again geffosk

can you not increase the resolution of your screen? Microsoft does warn in Windows 7 when choosing 800x600 that some things might not fit on your screen...

Uh, wait, I think I sorted it out...
Simply, I have to close the Print Box dialog or the whole program, raise the resolution and then reopen it.
In fact, I was leaving the Print Box open and in this case the window was not fitting to the new screen size by itself.
So it's just a minor glitch...

Well, I must remember to raise the screen res *before* attempting to print, otherwise I'll have to shut down the program and restart it because the Print Box dialog won't auto-resize and buttons are hidden somewhere in neverland!
Sometimes sticking with 800x600 is not as convenient...
Thanks, Paul, it's just a minor annoyance.

Thanks for the feedback geffosk

I don't know personally if there is anything we can do about this but I've pointed it out to the dev team to keep in mind as they work on the v.3 UI.

I'm running XP Pro SP3. Display set at 1024 x 768. XChange viewer vers 2.0 build 51.0. Print dialog is huge, truncated at top and bottom. Changing display settings is too inconvenient. Is there any other way of displaying the print dialog without truncation?

Hello Marshal,

The Print dialogue window is with dimensions 830 x 602 pixels, so it should fit in the 768 on the vertical you have on your monitor and leave plenty of space even if you have a big task bar in windows.

Please send us a screenshot of your screen so we can have a look at it (you should .zip, .rar or .7z it to be able to attach it here)

Regards,
Stefan

Hi, MarshallAbrams.

It looks like: your Windows System font is a bit larger (>8pt) or Screen-DPI is >96.
Please try to change one application's setting as in my attached screenshot.

Cheers.

I have adjusted my display to settings that I can comfortably read. Every other application displays a print dialog that I can read. As a work around, I'm opening a PDF document with Adobe so I can print it. I suggest that you put the print dialog window size on your to-do list. You have a very good product that shouldn't have the user experience unnecessarily flawed.

Hi MarshallAbrams,

thanks for your input. It is certainly something we are looking into. While the current set up works for most people there are some users reporting they cannot see the entire dialogue box and we are looking into what may be happening here.

I originated this post and I was able to change the font settings and the print dialog looks fine. I am using Windows XP sp3 at 1200 x 800 pixels (laptop). In the User Interface Fonts section I adjusted to the following -

Menu & Toolbars Font - Verdana 10.2 pt.
Common UI Font - Verdana 10.0 pt.

Menus, dialog boxes, everything looks good at this point.

It seems that Verdana and Tahoma work better as they take up less space vertically than the newer fonts like Segoe UI and Calibri. The newer fonts seemed to make the print dialog box too tall and not fit on the screen.

Thanks Arnold,
Yes certainly different fonts will have different dimensions and will affect the way the Print dialogue window looks.

MarshallAbrams please let us know if the advises listed here helped you fine tune our Viewer so that all menus are fitting on your screen?

My wife got a netbook (10" screen). The most pleasing screen resolution is 1024x600. At this resolution the top of the print dialog box is cropped - you can't see or choose a printer. A simple (at least to me) fix would be to put a vertical scroll bar on the print dialog window if the entire window will not fit on the screen. This would allow you access to the entire print dialog window. (I see no need for a horizontal scroll bar).

As it is the requirement to change the screen resolution is beyond her meager computer skills.

Hi gbgolfer,

thanks for the feedback. This will be addressed in V3. The print dialogue box will fit small screens.
